  • Entry-level opportunity

About AI Training and Audio Transcription

AI training is the human work behind modern artificial intelligence. People prepare and review examples such as text, images, and audio so AI systems can better understand the world and respond accurately.

Audio transcription turns spoken language into carefully structured training data. Precise transcripts that capture natural conversation, interruptions, non-verbal sounds, and difficult recording conditions help speech technologies handle real-world German more effectively.

  • Work on data that helps AI understand spoken German
  • Support speech technology with accurate human-reviewed transcripts
  • Build experience in a rapidly growing AI training field

The German Audio Transcriptionist Role

OpenTrain is seeking a German Audio Transcriptionist to create accurate, verbatim transcripts from German-language recordings. The work requires close listening and linguistic precision, especially when audio includes filler words, incomplete utterances, background noise, crosstalk, or overlapping speakers.

You will identify speakers, preserve natural speech patterns, and apply detailed transcription conventions and formatting rules consistently. This is a quality-focused role for someone who can work patiently and independently across large volumes of audio.

  • Transcribe German-language audio verbatim
  • Capture filler words, incomplete speech, and non-verbal sounds
  • Distinguish speakers in conversations and overlapping speech
  • Work independently and asynchronously with web-based tools

What You'll Do

Your work will involve listening carefully to challenging recordings and producing reliable transcripts that reflect what was actually spoken. You will review your output for accuracy while maintaining consistent formatting across repetitive assignments.

  • Listen to German recordings and create accurate transcripts
  • Handle noisy audio, crosstalk, filled pauses, and simultaneous speakers
  • Identify and distinguish speakers throughout each recording
  • Follow detailed transcription conventions and style guidance
  • Represent background noise, non-verbal sounds, and other speech phenomena
  • Review completed work for quality and accuracy
  • Manage large volumes of audio with care and consistency

Required Skills and Qualifications

You should be a native or near-native German speaker with strong written German across standard Hochdeutsch and colloquial registers. Excellent listening skills are essential for understanding noisy recordings, regional speech patterns, crosstalk, and overlapping dialogue.

The role also requires a reliable, self-directed approach and the patience to perform detailed, repetitive work accurately. You must be able to follow transcription conventions and formatting requirements consistently.

  • Native or near-native fluency in German
  • Strong German spelling, punctuation, grammar, and written expression
  • Sensitivity to nuance, filler words, and regional speech patterns
  • Ability to distinguish speakers in difficult audio
  • Consistent attention to detailed guidelines and formatting rules
  • Patient, methodical, detail-oriented working style
  • Reliability and self-direction when working independently

Relevant Background

Previous professional experience is helpful but not required by the entry-level classification. Backgrounds involving spoken-language accuracy, media, or structured data workflows may prepare you well for this work.

  • Professional transcription, court reporting, or stenography
  • Subtitling or closed captioning
  • Media post-production or audio editing
  • Linguistics or German language studies
  • Annotation workflows or transcription software
  • Familiarity with Bavarian, Saxon, Swabian, Swiss German, or Austrian variants
