The Role

OpenTrain is seeking a German Audio Transcript Editor to refine speech data used to improve AI transcription systems. You will listen to German recordings, compare them with existing transcripts, make precise word-level corrections, verify timing and segment alignment, and apply consistent editorial standards.

This is a fully remote part-time contractor role for contributors based in Germany. The stated commitment is 10 to 40 hours per week, with a time requirement of 20 or more hours per week. Pay is $10-$35 per hour.

What You’ll Do

You will work independently through web-based audio playback interfaces, applying detailed transcription and quality standards to German speech data. The work requires careful judgment when recordings include dialects, colloquial speech, filler words, unclear audio, overlapping speakers, or other non-standard language.

  • Review German audio recordings alongside corresponding transcripts for accuracy
  • Correct misspellings, missing words, incorrect words, and misheard phrases
  • Verify transcript timing and segment-level alignment
  • Apply formatting and editorial guidelines consistently
  • Flag unclear, overlapping, or otherwise challenging audio segments
  • Maintain quality and consistency across transcript work

Requirements

This entry-level role requires native-level German and an excellent ear across accents and registers. You should be comfortable making precise word-level edits, checking exact timing, and following structured editorial and quality standards independently.

  • Native-level German across regional accents and registers
  • Ability to recognize regional varieties such as Bavarian, Saxon, and Swiss-influenced German
  • Strong listening skills, patience, and exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to identify word-level transcription errors and misheard phrases
  • Sound judgment with dialect, colloquial speech, filler words, and non-standard language
  • Ability to verify exact transcript timing and segment alignment
  • Reliable, self-motivated working style

Helpful Background
