The Role
OpenTrain is recruiting a Game Design AI Evaluation Expert to develop and evaluate content used for AI system improvement. You will apply practical game design judgment to player personas, progression systems, reward economies, quest mechanics, game state logic, and interactive board elements.
The work combines hands-on game systems expertise with structured comparison and assessment of chatbot outputs. You will help determine whether proposed mechanics are balanced, engaging, logically consistent, and appropriate for their intended scenario.
Contractor position with part-time engagement
Entry-level project classification with a requirement for at least three years of relevant game systems experience
Focus areas include RPG progression, reward loops, gamification, and interactive storytelling
What You'll Do
You will establish the design context for each scenario, guide system decisions, and complete final evaluations of generated content. Your assessments should be grounded in real game design practice and clear, deterministic reasoning.
Establish player personas and confirm the intended scope of game system scenarios
Provide progression curves, XP guidance, reward balance recommendations, and quest or task board mechanics
Validate leveling formulas, reward economies, game state logic, and interactive board elements
Guide visual and domain-fit decisions during builder or canvas iterations
Assess whether mechanics are balanced and engaging
Compare multiple chatbot responses and complete final evaluations of the resulting content
Express game mechanics as deterministic spreadsheet logic
Requirements and Helpful Experience
You should have practical experience designing game systems and be comfortable evaluating competing design approaches. Strong critical thinking is important because you will need to identify inconsistencies, assess tradeoffs, and explain whether generated mechanics work as intended.
Experience may come from a game studio, independent game development, or a serious games environment. Background in interactive storytelling, level design, player engagement, and game balancing is helpful when assessing a range of game system scenarios.
At least three years of experience designing game systems
Experience with RPG progression, reward loops, or gamification
Practical fluency with leveling curves, XP economies, and quest or task board mechanics
Ability to validate game-state logic
Ability to express mechanics as deterministic spreadsheet formulas
Ability to assess player engagement, balance, and interactive storytelling choices
