About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Contributors create, review, and evaluate examples that help models understand technical information, answer questions accurately, and reason about complex subjects.

In this project, your engineering judgment and CAD knowledge will help produce objective training material from real design information. The work is remote and flexible, making it possible to contribute from anywhere while developing experience in a fast-growing technology field.

The Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking a FreeCAD Engineering Question Author to create high-quality training content from multi-part CAD assemblies in native FreeCAD format. You will examine geometry, assembly relationships, engineering function, and related design information to produce precise questions with exact, verifiable answers.

This contractor, part-time opportunity is open worldwide and requires 20 or more hours per week. The expected compensation is $40-$80 USD per hour. The project is listed at entry level, while the work itself is well suited to contributors with extensive technical experience.

  • Work arrangement: Remote and worldwide
  • Engagement: Part-time contractor
  • Time requirement: 20+ hours per week
  • Compensation: $40-$80 USD per hour
  • Working language: English

What You'll Do

You will turn complex mechanical designs into objective, assessment-ready question-and-answer sets. Each answer should be grounded in the assembly and capable of being checked directly against the design rather than guessed.

You will also communicate clearly when requirements or review feedback need clarification and document insights, uncertainties, or ambiguities identified during authoring.

  • Analyze multi-part FreeCAD assemblies and their geometry
  • Interpret assembly relationships and engineering function
  • Develop several technical questions for each assembly
  • Write clear, accurate, and technically precise answers
  • Ensure questions are objective, non-guessable, and verifiable from the design
  • Document authoring insights and ambiguities
  • Communicate complex technical concepts in writing and verbally
  • Incorporate clarification and review feedback

Requirements

You should bring an extensive background in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or industrial design, supported by strong foundational CAD knowledge. Experience analyzing multi-part assemblies and interpreting engineering drawings is required.

You must be able to author detailed technical questions or engineering training material and explain complex concepts clearly. Accuracy, clarity, and meticulous attention to detail are essential because each answer must be technically defensible and tied to information in the design.

  • Expertise in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or industrial design
  • Experience analyzing multi-part CAD assemblies
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings
  • Strong foundational CAD knowledge
  • Ability to write precise, technically verifiable engineering questions and answers
  • Clear written and verbal communication
  • Meticulous attention to technical accuracy and detail

Helpful Background

Direct experience with FreeCAD is valuable, though comparable experience with another CAD platform can also support success. An expert or consultant profile with strong technical communication skills, accuracy, and clarity is particularly well suited to this work.

  • Direct FreeCAD experience
  • Comparable experience with other CAD platforms
  • Technical consulting or expert-level engineering experience
  • Experience creating technical training material

Why Build an AI Training Career

AI training and data labeling are growing fields built around human expertise. Specialists contribute by preparing examples, writing and evaluating responses, and reviewing information so AI systems can become more useful and reliable.

OpenTrain helps you build a lasting profile around that work instead of treating every project as a separate opportunity. Your engineering knowledge can support a portfolio that grows as you contribute to new AI training projects.

  • Work remotely from anywhere with an internet connection
  • Choose flexible work that can fit around other commitments
  • Apply specialized engineering expertise to cutting-edge AI systems
  • Build a profile and portfolio around AI training experience
