About OpenTrain

OpenTrain AI is the hiring and contracting organization for this role and the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. We connect skilled professionals with opportunities to help shape how modern AI systems learn, reason, and perform.

About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Experts create examples, evaluate model outputs, and define what accurate reasoning looks like so advanced systems can improve. This work is remote and often flexible, giving subject-matter specialists a direct role in developing cutting-edge AI.

The Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking a Finance & Accounting Task Author to design expert-level accounting reconciliation tasks for training and evaluating advanced AI agents. You will create numerically rigorous scenarios, develop scoring rubrics, configure realistic task environments, and validate every answer for correctness.

This is a remote, flexible contract role for U.S.-based contributors working in English. No prior AI background is required, but deep accounting expertise and strong numerical reasoning are essential.

  • Contractor and part-time engagement
  • 20+ hours per week
  • U.S.-based applicants
  • English-language work
  • $60–$120 USD per hour

What You'll Do

You will turn realistic accounting workflows into well-defined tasks that test an AI agent's ability to analyze financial information, reconcile records, and explain its reasoning.

  • Author task prompts focused on matching payments to invoices, reconciling billing against recognized revenue, and analyzing margin reports.
  • Write scoring rubrics with exact numerical outcomes and the reasoning steps required to reach them.
  • Set up task environments containing the financial data, documents, and system states needed to replicate realistic accounting scenarios.
  • Solve each task yourself to confirm that the numbers work and the rubric is accurate.
  • Calibrate task difficulty by adjusting data complexity, ambiguity in source documents, or the number of required reasoning steps.
  • Review and correct AI-drafted task prompts or rubrics when provided.

Required Qualifications

This role requires hands-on accounting or finance experience and the ability to work precisely through multi-step reconciliation problems. You should be comfortable translating professional judgment into clear, verifiable criteria that can be used to assess AI performance.

  • Hands-on experience as an accountant, finance analyst, or in a closely related role.
  • Strong, precise numerical reasoning.
  • Solid knowledge of revenue recognition principles, matching rules, and standard accounting workflows.
  • Ability to define correctness criteria such as exact figures, reconciled balances, or documented variance explanations.
  • Comfort working with financial documents, spreadsheets, and accounting system outputs.
  • An iterative mindset and willingness to test and refine tasks until both difficulty and gradability are right.

Helpful Background

  • Experience in manufacturing, industrial, or enterprise B2B finance environments.
  • Familiarity with ERP or accounting platforms such as NetSuite, SAP, or QuickBooks Enterprise.
  • Background in audit, financial controls, or revenue assurance.

Why Work in AI Training

AI systems depend on carefully prepared examples and expert evaluations. By designing accounting tasks and checking model reasoning, you will help shape how AI handles financial data, calculations, and professional workflows while building experience in a rapidly growing field.

  • Work remotely with a flexible schedule.
  • Apply your accounting expertise to advanced AI development.
  • Help define reliable standards for financial reasoning and correctness.
  • Build experience at the intersection of finance and artificial intelligence.
