About AI Response Evaluation
AI response evaluation is the human side of improving modern artificial intelligence. Expert contributors review model outputs, identify inaccuracies or unsafe behavior, and help shape systems that respond more appropriately to complex real-world questions.
This project focuses on sensitive explosives and energetic-materials scenarios, where careful judgment is essential. Your expertise will help distinguish legitimate safety or professional requests from dual-use and adversarial content.
The Role
As an Explosives Safety AI Response Evaluator, you will assess how AI models handle realistic questions related to commercial blasting, mining, quarry explosives, pyrotechnics, propellants, bomb disposal, post-blast investigation, forensic examination, and explosives safety.
The work combines technical knowledge with written judgment. You will assess whether responses are accurate, relevant, safe, and appropriately bounded without improperly refusing legitimate questions.
- $100 per hour
- Project-based contractor engagement
- Part-time schedule of 20+ hours per week
- Remote work
- English-language work
What You'll Do
You will review responses from multiple AI models and explain the reasoning behind your decisions. The work requires identifying both the purpose and sensitivity of a request, then judging whether the model handled it responsibly.
You may also write the answer an AI model should have provided, compare responses against one another, and identify contextual weaknesses that could affect safety or usefulness.
- Classify requests as benign, dual-use, or adversarial
- Evaluate AI responses for safety, accuracy, relevance, and appropriate boundaries
- Rank multiple model responses against one another
- Write improved responses when a model answer is inadequate
- Identify legitimate purposes and sensitivity factors in technical requests
- Flag inaccuracies, bias, inappropriate refusals, and contextual weaknesses
- Explain technical and safety judgments clearly in writing
Required Expertise
This role requires deep professional knowledge of explosives, energetic materials, or related safety and operational fields. Relevant experience may come from commercial blasting, mining or quarry explosives, EOD, bomb disposal, pyrotechnics, propellants, post-blast investigation, forensic examination, explosives safety, or applicable regulation.
A relevant degree or certification and at least five years of hands-on professional experience are typically expected. You must be able to distinguish safe, unsafe, benign, dual-use, and adversarial content involving sensitive technical information.
- Professional expertise in explosives, energetic materials, blasting, EOD, pyrotechnics, propellants, or explosives safety
- Ability to assess whether sensitive technical information is safe and appropriately bounded
- Strong judgment when evaluating benign, dual-use, and adversarial requests
- Clear written communication for technical and safety decisions
- Relevant degree or certification
- At least five years of hands-on professional experience
Helpful Background
Experience producing incident reports, safety cases, or expert opinions can support the evaluation work. Familiarity with regulatory or licensing frameworks is also useful, including ATF, HSE, DoD explosives safety, or equivalent bodies.
