About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Contributors create examples, evaluate model outputs, and develop rigorous tests that help advanced systems reason more accurately. In specialized technical projects, experts can shape how AI handles scientific and engineering workflows.

This work is part of a fast-growing technology field and can offer flexible, remote opportunities. Your contributions can help define how future AI systems solve complex technical problems.

  • Work directly on advanced AI evaluation and training
  • Apply engineering expertise to realistic computational challenges
  • Build experience in a growing AI training industry

The Role

OpenTrain is seeking an Electrical Engineering and RF/Circuit Design AI Task Designer for a specialized freelance project. You will create challenging computational problems that evaluate advanced AI systems on scientific and engineering workflows.

The work combines electrical engineering expertise, RF and circuit simulation, experimental reasoning, Python development, and software-based validation. The role is listed as entry level, while the project requires graduate-level training or equivalent research experience in a relevant field.

  • Pay: $70 to $85 per hour
  • Typical listed rate: $85 per hour
  • Employment type: Contractor and part-time
  • Time requirement: 20+ hours per week
  • Work location: Worldwide and fully remote

What You’ll Do

You will design original, graduate-level problems involving RF and microwave network analysis, S-parameter characterization, transmission-line modeling, circuit simulation, operating-point analysis, and frequency-response characterization.

You will also develop strategic experiment and query problems that require interpreting partial results and recovering hidden circuit parameters from measurement data. Each task should present a genuine reasoning challenge rather than complexity that is merely computational.

  • Create fully defined computational setups for complex, multi-step workflows
  • Develop Python problem setups, oracle functions, and solution validators
  • Use specialized scientific libraries to implement and test tasks
  • Test problems against advanced AI models and assess performance
  • Refine task difficulty until each benchmark behaves as intended
  • Address research-style edge cases and software limitations
  • Evaluate reproducibility and distinguish reasoning from computational complexity

Requirements

You should have graduate-level training in electrical engineering, RF engineering, circuit design, or a related STEM field. An MS, PhD, or equivalent research experience is accepted.

The project requires hands-on proficiency with scikit-rf, ngspice, or comparable scientific simulation software, along with strong Python skills for scientific computation, task setup, oracle development, and solution validation.

  • Graduate-level training or equivalent research experience in a relevant STEM field
  • Practical knowledge of RF and microwave networks, S-parameters, transmission lines, or circuit simulation
  • Experience with circuit parameter recovery or related analysis
  • Strong Python programming skills
  • Ability to work independently in Linux, terminal-based workflows, and remote compute environments
  • Sound judgment about edge cases, reproducibility, software limitations, and problem difficulty

Helpful Background

The following experience is helpful for designing reliable, challenging scientific AI tasks. It is not listed as a required qualification.

  • Experience with multiple scientific tools
  • Benchmark or evaluation design
  • Scientific teaching
  • Exam or problem-set development
  • Computational reproducibility
  • Containerized environments
