OpenTrain is the #1 platform for people building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help contributors find remote, flexible projects, consolidate work history across platforms, and grow a lasting portfolio in human-centered AI training.
This role is part of OpenTrain AI’s contracting work — you will join a distributed team that helps teach models how real people speak and express meaning.
Why AI training matters
AI training (data labeling / annotation) is the human side of building AI: people create the high-quality examples models learn from. Tasks like transcription, timestamping, and linguistic review directly shape how models understand speech, tone, and meaning.
These roles are remote and flexible, accessible to contributors with language skills or domain knowledge, and provide an opportunity to have direct impact on state-of-the-art systems.
The role
You will transcribe spoken video content in Dioula and English, add precise timestamps for each segment, and produce detailed linguistic evaluations covering tone, intent, grammar, syntax, and meaning.
Work is contractor, part-time, remote and worldwide. Expect roughly 20+ hours per week, and you should be able to reliably commit at least 15 hours weekly to meet project needs.
Data type: video with spoken content
Labeling tasks: transcription and evaluation/rating
Deliver accurate, high-fidelity transcripts in Dioula and English and mark segment timestamps so each spoken turn is easy to reference. Provide nuanced ratings and written feedback that describe speaker intent, emotional tone, non-verbal cues, and language usage.
Collaborate with the project team to follow quality guidelines, complete reviews on time, and flag ambiguous or culturally specific content for further review.
Transcribe spoken content in Dioula and English with careful attention to fidelity
Timestamp every transcribed segment for easy cross-reference
Evaluate tone, speaker intent, emotional nuance, and non-verbal signals
Assess grammar, syntax, word usage, and conceptual meaning across both languages
Provide written linguistic feedback for complex or ambiguous segments
Work independently to meet quality and throughput targets
Requirements
Candidates must be fluent in Dioula and English and able to produce written transcripts and language evaluations in both languages. You should have transcription experience, familiarity with timestamping, and strong analytical skills for nuanced language tasks.
This role expects reliable remote availability and independence: you will often work without direct supervision and must follow project guidelines closely.
Fluency in Dioula and English (written and spoken)
Experience with transcription tools and timestamping
Ability to identify tone, intent, and emotional nuance in speech
Background in linguistics, translation, transcription, or related language work
Strong attention to detail and comfort handling complex language tasks independently
Experience in language research, applied linguistics, translation/localization, or education is a strong plus. Familiarity with AI or machine-learning language projects and awareness of cultural/regional nuances for Dioula-speaking communities will help you deliver richer feedback.
Language research, applied linguistics, or localization experience
Previous work on AI/ML language projects or data labeling
Cultural knowledge of Dioula-speaking regions and expression
