Database Systems Researcher for Research Coding Tasks

Create self-contained research coding tasks in database systems, then assess AI model answers and explain whether they meet research-quality standards. You will work with a project lead to keep tasks accurate and rigorous, and can focus on areas close to your existing research and coding practice.

You will receive guidance on the task scope and a worked example during onboarding.

• Build technical tasks in areas such as query optimization, storage engines, indexing, or learned database components.
• Review model outputs and give technically grounded feedback.

Pay, schedule, and requirements

• Pay: $50 per hour. An approved task taking about four hours is approximately $200.
• Schedule: 20+ hours per week; the work is asynchronous and can fit around ongoing research.
• Work arrangement: Remote, part-time contract work for candidates based in eligible countries.
• Required: Published database systems research, including work at SIGMOD, VLDB, ICDE, CIDR, or comparable venues.
• Required: Research code released through GitHub or another research artifact, plus a completed or in-progress PhD in computer science or a related field.
• Required: Strong hands-on coding ability in a database systems research area and the ability to evaluate AI-generated technical work and explain your judgments.
• Helpful: First-author publications, expertise in query optimization, storage engines, indexing, or learned database components, and familiarity with Docker and reproducible research environments.
