About OpenTrain

OpenTrain AI is the hiring and contracting organization for this role and the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. OpenTrain helps contributors discover specialized projects, build a professional AI training profile, and grow their experience in a rapidly expanding field.

About AI Training and Data Labeling

AI training is the human work behind modern artificial intelligence. Contributors create examples, evaluate model outputs, and provide structured feedback that helps AI systems reason more accurately. This role focuses on quantitative visual reasoning and objective evaluation of advanced AI models.

  • Remote work that can fit around other commitments
  • Flexible part-time contracting in a fast-growing technology field
  • A chance to apply statistical expertise to cutting-edge AI development

The Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking a Data and Statistical Chart Analysis Expert to create high-quality benchmark material for advanced AI training and evaluation. You will interpret complex statistical visualizations, reason through quantitative questions, and produce objectively verifiable answers with precise, step-by-step explanations.

The work involves graphical reasoning across Sankey diagrams, heatmaps, calibration curves, residual plots, correlation matrices, and distribution plots. The position is offered as part-time contract work, with a commitment of 20 or more hours per week. Compensation ranges from $25 to $50 per hour.

  • Employment type: Part-time contractor
  • Time requirement: 20+ hours per week
  • Work arrangement: Remote and worldwide
  • Primary language: English
  • Pay range: $25–$50 per hour

What You’ll Do

You will turn statistical visualizations into rigorous training and evaluation material. Your work should go beyond surface-level chart reading and require clear quantitative reasoning, accurate terminology, and answers that can be objectively verified.

  • Interpret statistical and data science visualizations using accurate technical terminology.
  • Design clear, objective, multi-step questions and tasks based on charts and graphs.
  • Create work involving trend analysis, comparisons, interpolation, graphical reasoning, and statistical inference.
  • Provide precise answers with explicit calculations, modeling logic, and step-by-step written explanations.
  • Reference units, scales, axes, legends, confidence intervals, and annotations accurately.
  • Develop objectively verifiable tasks and solutions for training and evaluating advanced AI models.
  • Collaborate remotely through written and verbal communication, incorporate feedback, and maintain consistent project communication.

Required Qualifications

You should have a bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in data science, statistics, applied mathematics, computer science, operations research, or a related quantitative discipline. At least two years of professional, academic, or research experience involving statistical models, data visualizations, or analytical reporting is required.

  • Advanced ability to interpret diverse chart types, including axes, legends, units, scales, confidence intervals, and statistical annotations.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Ability to explain analytical processes and quantitative reasoning clearly.
  • Sound judgment when constructing unambiguous analytical questions.
  • Ability to evaluate whether answers are objectively verifiable.
  • Quantitative reasoning across trends, comparisons, interpolation, correlation, and statistical inference.

Helpful Background

The following experience is valued but not required. It can help you create stronger benchmark material and evaluate analytical responses consistently.

  • Technical documentation or publication
  • Assessment design or structured analytical task development
  • Data annotation or benchmark question creation
  • Technical reporting
  • Evaluation of AI-generated outputs
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and a relevant second language

Why Work With OpenTrain

AI training and data-labeling work is one of the fastest-growing ways to participate in technology. By applying your quantitative expertise to model training and evaluation, you can contribute directly to how advanced AI systems understand data and explain their conclusions.

OpenTrain helps you build a durable professional profile around your AI training experience. Creating an account is free, and your growing portfolio can help you discover projects that match your skills and develop a long-term career in the field.

How to Succeed in This Project

Successful contributors combine technical statistical knowledge with careful communication. The strongest work makes every assumption, calculation, visual reference, and conclusion clear enough for another reviewer to verify.

  • Read chart elements precisely, including scales, units, legends, and annotations.
  • Build questions that require multiple reasoning steps rather than simple visual recall.
  • Use technically accurate language when describing patterns and statistical relationships.
  • Show calculations and modeling logic instead of providing unsupported conclusions.
  • Incorporate feedback consistently across project work.
