About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help freelancers discover specialized projects, consolidate proof-of-work in one profile, and grow a durable freelance career teaching AI.

OpenTrain AI is the hiring and contracting organization for this role. We connect skilled contributors with meaningful annotation and safety work while making it easy to track experience across projects.

About AI training and why it matters

AI training is the human side of building intelligent systems: people annotate data, write and evaluate prompts, and guide model behavior so AI systems are accurate, safe, and useful. This work is fast-growing, remote-friendly, and accessible to contributors with domain knowledge or strong judgment.

As a cybersecurity AI safety reviewer, you will directly influence how models handle sensitive, dual-use technical content—work that helps shape safer, more reliable AI systems.

  • 100% remote: work from anywhere with a reliable internet connection (this role is limited to US-based contributors).
  • Flexible, part-time work that can scale up to full-time hours based on availability.
  • Great for people who want practical, impactful freelance tech work without traditional full-time employment.

The role — what this contract does

OpenTrain AI seeks Cybersecurity AI Safety Reviewers to write expert prompts, evaluate model outputs for technical accuracy and helpfulness, and classify prompts and conversations using structured guidelines. The work centers on cybersecurity topics and requires careful handling of potentially sensitive or dual-use information.

  • Employment type: Contractor, part-time.
  • Time requirement: 20+ hours per week, flexible (projects can go up to 40 hours/week).
  • Start: Immediate.
  • Location: United States only.
  • Pay: $60–$90 per hour (PAY_PER_HOUR).
  • Data type: Text — label types include text generation, evaluation rating, and classification.

What you'll do day-to-day

Your core tasks focus on creating high-quality prompts and judging model behavior against technical and safety criteria. Work is task-based and guided by structured instructions and rubrics.

  • Write expert-level prompts across specialized cybersecurity topics.
  • Review and annotate model responses for technical accuracy, helpfulness, and safe handling of sensitive content.
  • Classify prompts and conversations using provided structured guidelines.
  • Apply security judgment when evaluating dual-use or potentially harmful technical information.

Requirements

You must bring strong cybersecurity fundamentals, clear technical reasoning, and excellent English writing skills. The role emphasizes judgment around safety and dual-use material rather than formal academic credentials.

  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity concepts and modern software systems.
  • Proven ability to write technical explanations or prompts in English.
  • Sound judgment for evaluating technical accuracy and responsibly handling sensitive or dual-use content.
  • Comfortable reviewing AI model responses against structured guidelines.
  • Preferred: background in offensive security, penetration testing, vulnerability research, or technical red-teaming (a plus, not required).

Who should apply

This role is a fit for security practitioners and technically fluent reviewers who want flexible, impactful freelance work shaping AI safety. Entry-level applicants with strong fundamentals and conscientious judgment are welcome.

  • Security analysts, penetration testers, vulnerability researchers, or red-teamers looking for part-time contract work.
  • Technical writers and engineers with solid cybersecurity knowledge and an interest in AI safety.
  • People who value careful, guideline-driven review and can make responsible decisions about dual-use content.
