The Role

OpenTrain is seeking a condensed matter magnetism specialist for AI training work involving magnetic structures, neutron scattering, magnetic space groups, and physical signatures of magnetic order. You will provide specialized scientific analysis to help improve how AI systems learn and reason about advanced physics.

This remote contractor engagement is expected to last approximately 8 to 10 weeks and requires about 10 hours per week.

What You'll Do

You will evaluate theoretical and experimental information related to magnetic ordering and structure determination, applying advanced symmetry concepts and condensed matter physics methods.

  • Analyze and interpret magnetic structure factors using propagation-vector methods and advanced symmetry concepts.
  • Identify and classify antiferromagnetic, ferromagnetic, and related magnetic phases using theoretical and experimental data, including neutron diffraction results.
  • Curate and validate magnetic space group assignments using MAGNDATA and BNS notation conventions.
  • Evaluate birefringence and magneto-optic Kerr effect signatures for selected materials.
  • Connect optical observations to underlying magnetic structures and physical mechanisms.

Required Qualifications

This role requires advanced academic training or equivalent research experience in condensed matter physics, with a specialization in magnetism or a closely related field. Strong technical knowledge and the ability to connect experimental observations with underlying physical mechanisms are essential.

  • Ability to connect experimental observations to underlying magnetic mechanisms.
