The Role
OpenTrain is recruiting a Computational Mathematics AI Problem Designer to create and solve challenging scientific problems used in the development and evaluation of advanced language models. You will produce original, research-grade content and rigorously justified solutions for graduate-level quantitative tasks.
The work combines computational mathematics, scientific coding, structured difficulty assessment, and detailed quality review. This is an individual freelance contractor assignment performed remotely.
Planned engagement length: three months
Commitment options: 20, 30, or 40 hours per week
Minimum commitment: 20 hours per week
Required availability: at least four hours of overlap with Pacific Standard Time

What You'll Do
You will formulate technically demanding problems, solve them accurately, and assess whether both the mathematical reasoning and computational implementation meet rigorous quality standards. You will also work with reviewers and team leads to refine content based on feedback.
Develop original research-grade and graduate-level computational mathematics problems
Use Python and scientific coding to create quantitative problem content
Define problem categories, secondary tags, and appropriate difficulty levels
