The Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking a Clinical Publications AI Evaluation Author to create and review realistic evaluation tasks based on biomedical publication materials. You will assess AI-generated manuscript content, verify claims against clinical source records, and write clear rationales that improve evaluation criteria and model behavior.

This is a remote, part-time contractor opportunity requiring 20 or more hours per week. Compensation is $50-$80 USD per hour.

What You'll Do

You will work with peer-reviewed journal manuscripts, scientific abstracts, conference posters, presentation decks, and clinical source records. Your reviews will combine scientific accuracy, publication standards, and clear written reasoning.

• Author and review evaluation tasks grounded in biomedical publication materials.
• Assess AI-generated manuscript sections for alignment with publisher formatting standards and journal guidelines.
• Evaluate compliance with international publication ethics and relevant scientific publishing practices.
• Check scientific accuracy in manuscripts, abstracts, and discussion sections.
• Distinguish medical or data-interpretation errors from stylistic preferences.
• Trace publication claims to Clinical Study Reports, protocols, and Tables, Figures, and Listings.
• Confirm that written narratives are supported by source data.
• Write structured, actionable rationales for your assessments.
• Help refine evaluation criteria and scientific publishing best practices.

Required Qualifications

This role requires substantial professional experience in medical or scientific publication authoring. Prior AI training experience is not required because the work depends on deep medical publication expertise and careful scientific judgment.

• At least five years of dedicated medical or scientific publication authoring experience.
• Experience working in a sponsor, contract research organization, medical communications agency, or independent consulting setting.
• Direct experience lead-authoring or managing peer-reviewed biomedical or clinical manuscripts.
• Working knowledge of ICMJE, GPP3 or GPP2022, CONSORT, STROBE, copyright compliance, and journal submission workflows.
• Ability to interpret Clinical Study Reports, protocols, Tables, Figures, Listings, and statistical analysis plans.
• Ability to translate clinical data and source materials into clear, publication-ready scientific narratives.
• Strong written communication and the ability to provide structured, actionable feedback on scientific drafts.
• Ability to distinguish scientific or medical reasoning errors from editorial preferences.
• Advanced training in life sciences, pharmacy, or medicine, or equivalent depth of publication authoring experience.

Preferred Background

An advanced degree such as a PhD, PharmD, MD, or MSc is preferred. Experience across multiple clinical phases is valuable, and background in oncology, immunology, or rare diseases is especially relevant.
