The Role

OpenTrain is recruiting a Cleared Naval Operations AI Training Expert for an AI training project focused on naval operations and maritime security. You will apply direct fleet, program, intelligence, or comparable maritime and defense expertise to produce high-quality analysis, recommendations, assessments, and briefings for AI training.

Prior AI training experience is not required. This is a remote contractor position with part-time availability of 20 or more hours per week and an advertised rate of $50 to $100 per hour.

What You'll Do

You will use professional naval and maritime expertise to interpret operational, program, and capability developments. The work includes synthesizing classified and unclassified information, producing concise written assessments, and preparing high-level briefings for senior military and civilian leadership.

The role also involves coordination with Navy, Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, and industry stakeholders. You must safeguard and handle classified materials in accordance with project and facility protocols.

  • Develop expert analysis on naval operations, platforms, and doctrine
  • Assess classified and unclassified operational or program data
  • Create recommendations supporting Navy planning and requirements
  • Draft concise written assessments and senior-level briefings
  • Interpret developments in naval capabilities and maritime security
  • Coordinate with Navy, DoD, Intelligence Community, and industry stakeholders
  • Follow classified-material handling protocols

Required Qualifications

You should bring at least 10 years of experience in the U.S. Navy, MARAD/DOT, or comparable maritime or defense roles, or demonstrated subject-matter authority. Strong executive or flag-level briefing and writing ability is essential, along with analytical judgment in classified or high-stakes environments.

An active TS/SCI clearance is strongly preferred. Candidates with a Secret clearance held within the last 24 months and TS/SCI reinstatement eligibility may be considered. English fluency and the ability to follow classified-material handling protocols are required.

  • Naval operations, platforms, and doctrine expertise
  • At least 10 years of relevant maritime, Navy, defense, program, or intelligence experience, or demonstrated authority
  • Experience synthesizing classified and unclassified operational or program data
  • Strong executive or flag-level briefing and writing skills
  • Analytical judgment in classified or high-stakes environments
  • Familiarity with Pentagon processes, OPNAV, NAVSEA, or PEO environments
  • Active TS/SCI clearance strongly preferred
  • Recent Secret clearance with TS/SCI reinstatement eligibility may be considered
  • English fluency
  • Relevant master's degree desirable
  • Intelligence analysis or Intelligence Community experience is an asset
