As a subject-matter contributor you will produce authoritative content and benchmarks that guide model outputs in chemistry-focused tasks, directly influencing how models handle advanced scientific queries.

The role

We are hiring a Chemistry Expert (PhD) to create and validate advanced chemistry responses used as gold-standard examples and training material. You will provide accurate answers, detailed explanations, and quality reviews to ensure scientific correctness and clarity.

This is a contract, part-time role with a baseline expectation of 20+ hours per week and a compensation range of $80–$90 USD per hour.

What you’ll do

You will produce, review, and document high-quality chemistry content for AI training projects and collaborate with annotation leads to refine expectations and quality metrics.

• Write authoritative answers to advanced chemistry questions with clear step-by-step explanations and justifications.
• Review chemistry data, proposed solutions, and model outputs for correctness, completeness, and pedagogical clarity.
• Create and document golden examples and benchmark responses that serve as quality standards for annotators and models.
• Help define response requirements, evaluation rubrics, and domain-specific quality checks.
• Participate in occasional remote discussions or workshops to align on domain expectations and project goals.

Requirements

Candidates must meet all core requirements listed below; we will verify credentials and evaluate sample work during onboarding.

• PhD in Chemistry or a closely related discipline.
• Proven ability to write clear, precise explanations of advanced chemistry concepts.
• Experience producing or reviewing educational, research, or technical chemistry content.
• Familiarity with multiple chemistry subfields (organic, inorganic, physical, analytical, materials, etc.).
• Strong attention to scientific accuracy, completeness, and detail.
• Experience collaborating remotely or across cross-functional teams.

Helpful background (not required)

Prior exposure to AI, data annotation, or digital content projects is a plus but not required. Comfortable formatting explanations for learners and annotators will help you succeed.

Logistics, tools, and scope

This role is contract, part-time, and remote. Open to applicants worldwide who can work in English. Typical tasks are text-based: question answering, text generation, and evaluation/rating.

Compensation: paid hourly at $80–$90 USD per hour. Time expectation: 20+ hours per week. Employment types: contractor, part-time.
