About this role
OpenTrain is recruiting Chemistry specialists to support AI research through expert question design and scientific review. You will create rigorous, domain-relevant chemistry questions and evaluate AI-generated responses for scientific accuracy, logical consistency, chemical validity, and the quality of their reasoning. The work draws on advanced chemistry knowledge across areas such as organic, inorganic, physical, analytical, materials, and computational chemistry.

What you will do
- Design challenging chemistry questions that test domain-relevant reasoning and technical problem-solving.
- Review AI-generated responses for scientific accuracy and chemical validity.
- Assess whether explanations are logically consistent with reaction mechanisms, experimental design, and data interpretation.
- Provide clear expert feedback that helps improve AI understanding of chemistry.
- Apply sound judgment across chemistry topics and identify subtle errors in reasoning or interpretation.

Required skills
- Doctoral-level study or a graduate degree in Chemistry or a closely related field.
- Strong command of advanced chemical reasoning and core principles across relevant chemistry subdisciplines.
- Demonstrated understanding of experimental design, reaction mechanisms, and data analysis.
- Ability to evaluate technical explanations for accuracy, consistency, and chemical validity.
- Careful written communication and independent judgment when reviewing complex scientific content.

Helpful background
Experience in organic, inorganic, physical, analytical, materials, or computational chemistry can support the breadth of work involved. This opportunity can fit alongside research, teaching, postdoctoral work, or industry employment, with a flexible asynchronous schedule and participation during active projects.

Work arrangement
This is an ongoing, project-based, fully remote opportunity with flexible participation. Most contributors work approximately 5-20 hours per week when an active project is available, and the role is offered as hourly contract work.

Compensation
The opportunity offers up to $150 per hour for qualifying work.
