About AI Training Work
AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Experts create examples, write prompts, verify solutions, and evaluate model responses so AI systems can produce more accurate and useful results.
In this project, your engineering expertise will help train and evaluate models on fluid-dynamics reasoning. The work is remote, flexible, and asynchronous, allowing you to contribute on your own schedule while working at the forefront of AI development.
The Role
OpenTrain AI is seeking an expert CFD AI Task Designer to create small, precisely defined engineering challenges grounded in physics and real fluid-dynamics practice. You will design bite-sized exam-style problems that are unambiguous, objectively verifiable, and suitable for automatic grading.
No machine learning background is required. The role is a freelance, hourly contract requiring 20+ hours per week, with work available to qualified contributors in the United States and India.
Employment type: Part-time contractor
Schedule: 20+ hours per week; independent and asynchronous
Pay: $80–$110 USD per hour
Language: English
Experience level: Expert
Work location: Remote; United States or India
What You'll Do
You will turn your CFD knowledge into rigorous training and evaluation tasks. Each challenge should be self-contained, physically accurate, clearly explained, and appropriately difficult for testing AI engineering reasoning.
Design compact CFD and aerodynamics tasks that test engineering reasoning
Write problem statements covering boundary-condition selection, mesh quality, flow-regime identification, and simulation setup
Develop deterministic scoring checkers that automatically evaluate model answers
Provide verified reference solutions confirming that each task is solvable and correctly scored
Review and iterate on tasks for physical accuracy, clarity, and appropriate difficulty
Use OpenFOAM experience to ground challenges in real-world engineering practice
Required Qualifications
This role is intended for an experienced CFD practitioner who can explain complex physics clearly and formulate engineering problems that can be evaluated objectively. A background in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline is preferred at the BS level or higher.
Hands-on experience with OpenFOAM
Solid foundation in fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, and heat-transfer fundamentals
Comfort with mesh generation, turbulence modeling, boundary-condition specification, and post-processing
Ability to formulate precise, self-contained engineering problems
Strong written communication skills for explaining complex physics clearly and concisely
Background in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline; BS or higher preferred
Self-motivated and reliable when working independently without supervision
Helpful Background
The following experience is helpful but not required. It may be especially valuable when creating varied, realistic, and technically demanding CFD challenges.
Experience with multiple CFD solvers or multiphysics platforms
Familiarity with Python, Bash, or MATLAB for simulation setup or post-processing
Exposure to design optimization, flow-control strategies, or adjoint methods
Graduate-level coursework or research in aerodynamics, propulsion, or computational methods
Experience writing technical assessments, exam problems, or engineering challenges
Interest in how large language models reason about STEM problems
Why Join This Project
Your work will directly influence how AI systems approach specialized engineering questions. By contributing verified problems, reference solutions, and reliable evaluation logic, you will help make AI reasoning more useful for technical and scientific applications.
