The Role

OpenTrain AI is recruiting a certified medical coder for clinical documentation and coding review. You will assess clinical documentation, medical coding, and AI-generated clinical notes for accuracy, completeness, coding integrity, and alignment between documentation and assigned codes.

This is a remote, part-time contractor opportunity for a US-based specialist. The minimum commitment is 10 hours per week, with flexible scheduling available. The listed experience level is entry level, though the role requires active professional certification and current related practice.

What You'll Do

You will combine clinical documentation review, annotation, and structured feedback to help improve healthcare AI systems. Careful attention to documentation details and consistent application of project guidelines will be central to the work.

  • Review clinical documentation for accuracy, completeness, and coding integrity.
  • Evaluate AI-generated clinical notes and summaries against documentation and coding standards.
  • Validate the connection between clinical documentation and assigned ICD-10 codes.
  • Annotate documentation using detailed guidelines.
  • Flag omissions, inaccuracies, and documentation gaps.
  • Write structured feedback that identifies issues and supports improvements to medical AI systems.
  • Contribute expert input on annotation guidelines and documentation standards.
  • Raise questions when project guidance is ambiguous.

Required Qualifications

This role requires active medical coding or clinical documentation expertise, strong attention to detail, and the ability to evaluate both source documentation and AI-generated clinical notes. You must be based in the United States and communicate in English, along with advanced C1-level speaking, listening, and writing ability in at least one additional language.

  • Active certification as a CCDS, CHC, CCS, or CPC
  • Practical ICD-10 coding experience
  • Current work in medical coding, clinical documentation improvement, or a closely related documentation role
  • US-based residence
  • English communication skills
  • Advanced C1-level speaking, listening, and writing ability in at least one additional language
  • Ability to review clinical notes carefully and follow detailed project guidelines
  • Ability to identify omissions and inaccuracies in AI-generated clinical notes
