OpenTrain AI is hiring directly for this role. We provide the project, guidelines, and payment terms — you bring the certification, subject-matter knowledge, and accuracy.

Why this work matters

AI training (data labeling) is the human foundation of modern machine learning. Medical coding work helps teach models to interpret clinical documentation correctly and supports tools used across healthcare workflows.

These projects are remote and flexible, and they let experienced coders apply domain expertise at scale while shaping how clinical AI systems behave.

The role

We are recruiting certified medical coders for remote, production-oriented CPT and ICD-10 coding of medical records and clinical documentation. This contractor position focuses on accurate, high-volume code assignment and working with quality teams to resolve discrepancies.

Compensation: $45–$65 per hour (hourly pay). Employment type: Contractor, Part-time (project requires intensive production).

  • Minimum commitment: 2 weeks.
  • Expected workload: production pace typically requiring up to 40 hours/week; applicants should be available for 20+ hours/week.
  • Location: Remote (worldwide applicants accepted, but familiarity with U.S. healthcare documentation is required).

What you'll do

  • Assign CPT and ICD-10 codes to medical records and clinical documentation with speed and accuracy.
  • Review chart documentation for coding accuracy and completeness, applying payer and regulatory guidelines.
  • Coordinate with quality reviewers to resolve coding discrepancies and follow feedback.
  • Maintain high productivity and quality metrics in a remote, high-volume workflow.

Required qualifications

  • Active CPC and/or CRC certification (or equivalent professional coding credential).
  • Proven experience with CPT and ICD-10 coding in U.S. clinical settings.
  • Familiarity with U.S. healthcare documentation, payer rules, and compliance standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated ability to maintain coding accuracy under production targets.
  • Ability to work independently as a remote contractor and meet throughput expectations.

Preferred experience

  • HCC (Hierarchical Condition Category) coding experience.
  • Understanding of MEAT (Monitor, Evaluate, Assess, Treat) documentation principles.
  • Experience with risk-adjustment coding and related quality processes.

How the project works

You will be provided guidelines, sample annotations, and quality targets. Work is performed remotely on your schedule within the availability window you commit to; deliverables are measured by production and accuracy.

Apply through your OpenTrain account, complete any onboarding checks, and start coding after qualification. Payment is hourly at the stated rate once work begins.

Who should apply

This role is for experienced, certified medical coders who want remote, high-volume contract work and who can reliably produce accurate CPT and ICD-10 assignments to U.S. clinical documentation.

If you hold CPC or CRC credentials, have solid payer/regulatory knowledge, and want a short-term intensive engagement with clear productivity expectations, we encourage you to apply.
