About AI Evaluation Work
AI evaluation is the human side of building reliable artificial intelligence. Experts review model-generated content, identify errors and unsafe reasoning, and provide the judgments that help advanced systems become more accurate, useful, and responsible.
- Apply professional expertise to cutting-edge language model development
- Work remotely with a flexible schedule
- Help improve how AI communicates technical assumptions, limitations, and safety considerations
The Role
OpenTrain is hiring a Biomedical Engineering AI Evaluation Expert to assess and improve how advanced language models handle biomedical engineering concepts. You will apply professional engineering judgment to AI-generated technical content across health and life-science topics, with particular attention to assumptions, limitations, safety, and regulatory-sensitive information.
This contractor, part-time role is listed as entry level but requires at least four years of professional biomedical engineering experience and a bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field. The expected commitment is 20 or more hours per week.
- Pay range: $40 to $100 USD per hour
- Employment type: Contractor and part time
- Workload: 20+ hours per week
- Language: English
- Eligible countries include the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, India, Singapore, and other listed locations
What You'll Do
You will evaluate technical content generated by AI and help establish standards for sound, safe, and responsible biomedical engineering explanations. Assignments may include reviewing prompts, responses, explanations, calculations, scenarios, and step-by-step reasoning.
- Evaluate AI-generated responses for technical accuracy, logical soundness, completeness, and clarity
- Create and assess realistic biomedical engineering scenarios, calculations, and design or analysis reasoning tasks
- Review unit consistency and the correct interpretation of constraints
- Identify factual errors, unsafe recommendations, unsupported clinical claims, missing assumptions, and invalid simplifications
- Find incomplete reasoning and misuse of standards
- Assess content involving biomechanics, bioinstrumentation, biomedical signals, medical device design, biomaterials, and imaging
- Review verification, validation, risk, and clinical or regulatory considerations
- Help define when explanations require experimental verification or escalation to clinical and regulatory experts
- Distinguish correlation, causation, and defensible technical conclusions
Requirements
Candidates must bring professional biomedical engineering experience and the ability to make careful technical judgments in safety-sensitive contexts. A bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field is required, along with at least four years of relevant professional experience.
- Professional experience in medical devices, biomechanics, biomaterials, bioinstrumentation, imaging, signals, or a related specialty
- Strong knowledge of biomedical engineering fundamentals, technical assumptions, constraints, units, uncertainty, and safety
- Ability to validate technical calculations, assumptions, units, constraints, and engineering reasoning
- Ability to distinguish defensible reasoning from unsupported claims
- Professional judgment concerning patient safety, clinical claims, and regulatory-sensitive content
- Understanding of medical device verification, validation, risk management, or applicable quality and regulatory standards
Helpful Background
Prior experience in AI data training, annotation, red-teaming, or evaluating AI-generated technical content is valuable. Familiarity with quality systems, medical device development, manufacturing validation, or clinical workflows can also help you assess model output in realistic professional contexts.
- Medical device design
- Physiological signals and bioinstrumentation
- Quality and regulatory work
- Manufacturing validation
- ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 60601, or ISO 10993
- FDA design controls
- Clinical workflow constraints
