About AI Training Work
AI models learn from carefully prepared examples, evaluations, and human feedback. Scientific coding trainers help make that process measurable by creating challenging problems, reliable reference answers, and tests that distinguish strong model performance from plausible but incorrect results.
Contribute to the development and evaluation of cutting-edge AI systems
Use biology and scientific computing expertise in practical model-training work
Complete flexible, remote work using a computer and internet connection
The Role
OpenTrain is seeking an intermediate Biology Scientific Coding Trainer to create high-quality scientific coding tasks for training and evaluating AI models. You will translate advanced biology and scientific computing knowledge into precise, logically connected problems, then implement dependable Python reference solutions and tests.
This is a contractor, part-time role requiring 20 or more hours per week. The work is available to candidates in Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Turkey, and Vietnam. English is required.
Subject focus: biology and scientific Python coding
Engagement: part-time contractor
Time requirement: 20+ hours per week
Experience level: intermediate
Work arrangement: remote
What You’ll Do
You will design complete scientific coding tasks that are rigorous, testable, and useful for comparing model capabilities. Your work will span scientific writing, Python development, benchmark design, model-output review, and detailed quality assurance.
Write one main scientific problem with at least three progressively connected sub-problems
Implement verified golden solutions in Python
Provide complete unit test coverage for reference solutions
Design discriminative test cases that separate correct outputs from incorrect outputs
Validate tasks for well-posedness, scientific correctness, determinism, and output clarity
Review model outputs and refine tasks for evaluation across multiple language models
Respond to quality feedback and maintain a low rework rate
Participate in review sessions and project standups during overlap hours
Requirements
You should have advanced biology knowledge and the ability to apply it to computational problems. Strong Python programming and scientific computing skills are essential, along with the judgment needed to assess scientific correctness, determinism, test coverage, and the ability of test cases to discriminate between outputs.
Master’s or PhD in Biology, or equivalent master’s or PhD-level biology knowledge
Strong Python programming and scientific computing ability
Experience with NumPy, SciPy, SymPy, or comparable scientific tools
Ability to write well-posed biology problems with clear constraints and expected outputs
Ability to create discriminative unit tests
Ability to judge scientific correctness and determinism
English-language working ability
Helpful Background
The following experience is helpful but is not listed as a required qualification. Academic or professional work that combines biology with scientific programming can provide a strong foundation for this role.
AI data annotation
Scientific research or published STEM research
Scientific writing
LLM evaluation frameworks
Coding benchmarks
Computational biology or related scientific programming
