About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help freelancers find specialized AI training roles, build a unified portfolio of work, and grow credible experience that follows them across projects. Creating an OpenTrain account is free.

  • Centralized profile and proof-of-work so you don’t rebuild credentials for every project.
  • Work directly on the human side of AI — tasks that shape how future systems behave.

About AI Training Work (Biology-focused)

AI training is the human process that teaches models how to reason, answer, and behave. Biology-focused AI training uses subject-matter prompts, scenarios, and evaluations so models learn accurate, evidence-based scientific responses.

This work is remote and flexible, and it ranges from short evaluation tasks to extended review assignments that require careful scientific judgment.

  • Contribute to cutting-edge AI by supplying expert knowledge and clear explanations.
  • Many projects accept subject experts with academic or professional credentials rather than prior AI experience.

The Role

OpenTrain is recruiting a Biology Expert to produce and review biology-related content used for training generative models. You will create or improve expert answers, compare model outputs to scientific standards, and explain judgments so feedback can be incorporated into model training.

  • Position type: Part-time contractor, remote, worldwide.
  • Estimated commitment: about 20 hours per week for 1–3 months.

What You’ll Do

  • Write or refine expert responses to biology prompts and explain your reasoning clearly.
  • Review source materials and model outputs against detailed project guidelines and rubrics.
  • Provide clear, actionable feedback that helps improve model behavior and scientific accuracy.
  • Maintain consistency and high quality across repeated annotation and evaluation tasks.

Requirements

The project requires strong domain expertise and the ability to communicate scientific reasoning in clear written form.

  • PhD in biology or a closely related life science field (required).
  • Relevant professional, academic, or language expertise in biology AI training.
  • Fluency in English and excellent written communication skills.
  • Scientific data analysis and critical evaluation skills.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions, apply rubrics consistently, and work autonomously.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to scientific accuracy.

Compensation & Schedule

Compensation is hourly and paid to contractors. The role is scoped as part-time work with flexible scheduling around the estimated weekly hours.

  • Pay: $80–$90 USD per hour (typical posted rate $90/hr, hourly min $80, max $90).
  • Estimated project earnings: $12,800–$14,400 based on roughly 20 hours/week for 1–3 months.
  • Schedule: ~20 hours per week, flexible; remote work from anywhere.

How It Works / How To Apply

Apply through your OpenTrain account. If you don’t have one yet, create a free profile to track your work, showcase experience, and submit applications.

Applications typically ask for a brief background, proof of relevant credentials, and short sample responses or assessments depending on project requirements.

  • Create an OpenTrain account (free) and complete your profile with education and relevant experience.
  • Submit your application and any requested samples or credential verification through the OpenTrain platform.
  • If selected, you’ll receive project instructions, rubrics, and onboarding materials to begin work.

Who Should Apply

This role is well suited to researchers, postdocs, faculty, or industry scientists with a PhD in biology or a closely related field who enjoy writing clear explanations and evaluating model outputs against scientific standards.

  • You want flexible, remote contract work that leverages your domain expertise.
  • You can translate technical reasoning into concise, reviewable feedback.
  • You are comfortable working independently and following detailed rubrics.
