About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for people building careers in AI training and data labeling. We connect contributors with specialty work that helps train and validate AI systems, and support building a durable freelance portfolio in this fast-growing field.

We make specialized AI training work easier to find, apply for, and grow into—whether you want flexible part-time work or to build deep subject-matter expertise used to shape AI behavior.

Why AI Training Matters

AI training is the human side of building intelligent systems: people annotate, evaluate, and improve examples that modern models learn from. Contributors influence how models understand and explain scientific concepts, making this work high-impact and cutting-edge.

Many roles are remote and flexible, and they range from entry-level annotation tasks to expert review and content creation. This role is an opportunity to apply biological expertise directly to model training and validation.

The Role

You will work as a Biology Document Review Specialist focused on reviewing and annotating biological datasets and educational content, evaluating and editing laboratory reports, research papers, and field study narratives, and refining prompts and data inputs that help AI systems understand biological concepts.

This contractor, part-time role requires approximately 20+ hours per week and is open worldwide to English speakers. Work is remote and communicated via written and verbal channels with project managers and technical teams.

What You'll Do

Daily tasks combine subject-matter review, writing, and annotation work to improve AI understanding and outputs.

  • Review and annotate biological datasets and educational content for clarity, accuracy, and completeness.
  • Author, evaluate, and edit laboratory reports, peer-reviewed style research papers, and field study narratives.
  • Develop prompts, queries, and example inputs that teach or test biological concepts for models.
  • Identify gaps, ambiguities, and factual errors in model-generated outputs and provide expert corrections.
  • Contribute educational or reference materials used in training and validation datasets.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations clearly with project managers and technical teams.

Labeling Tasks & Data Types

Work centers on text-based data and tasks that train and evaluate generative and classification models. Expect a mix of annotation, rating, and short-form content generation.

  • Data type: text.
  • Labeling tasks may include classification, evaluation/rating, text generation, and prompt/response writing (SFT).

Requirements

You must meet the core academic and communication requirements listed below. Prior AI experience is not required.

  • BSc, MSc, or PhD in Biology, Life Sciences, or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience authoring laboratory reports, peer-reviewed research papers, or field studies.
  • Strong scientific writing skills and precise, clear communication.
  • Detail-oriented approach with commitment to scientific rigor and accuracy.
  • Prior remote collaboration on scientific, research, or educational projects is a plus.

Compensation, Schedule & Contract

This is a contractor, part-time position with flexible scheduling. Expect to work roughly 20+ hours per week.

Pay is hourly in USD, ranging from $20 to $40 per hour depending on experience and task complexity.

  • Employment type: Contractor, Part-time.
  • Hours: 20+ hours/week (flexible, remote).
  • Pay: $20–$40 USD per hour.

Who Should Apply

This role is a good fit if you have formal training in biology or life sciences and enjoy scientific writing, editing, and hands-on review work. Entry-level candidates with the required degree and document experience are welcome.

If you want flexible remote work that directly shapes how AI systems learn biological concepts, this role offers meaningful impact and practical experience in AI training.
