The Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking a Bengali PDF Annotation and Transcription Expert to build training data for document AI in a script-heavy language. You will annotate the structure of publicly available Bengali PDFs and transcribe text faithfully in Bengali script.

This entry-level contractor role is part time and requires at least 20 hours per week. The work is best suited to someone who combines native Bengali fluency with exceptional attention to detail and a systematic approach to document review.

What You'll Do

You will create detailed structural and textual annotations across hundreds of pages. Accuracy is essential because even a single incorrect diacritic or character can affect the quality of the resulting training dataset.

You will also review a colleague's work from start to finish, helping maintain consistent annotation standards across the project.

• Source publicly available Bengali PDFs in assigned document types containing multimodal elements.
• Identify and draw bounds around every meaningful region, including titles, headings, paragraphs, tables, figures, diagrams, captions, and formulas.
• Assign component types and reading-order indices to document regions.
• Record parent-component relationships for figures and tables.
• Transcribe all text exactly as it appears in Bengali script, including handwritten content.
• Flag regions that are illegible.
• Capture page metadata such as language, document type, source, and dimensions.
• Flag pages or regions containing tables, formulas, and handwriting.
• Review a colleague's work end to end for accuracy.

Requirements and Helpful Experience

You must have native fluency in Bengali, including full command of Bengali script, diacritics, and conjunct forms. The role requires character-level accuracy and the ability to apply a taxonomy consistently across hundreds of pages.

Experience with document annotation, transcription, translation, localization, subtitling, proofreading, journalism, or regional-language data review is relevant. Familiarity with regional-language AI data, OCR correction, or post-editing is helpful but not required.

• Native fluency in Bengali with strong command of Bengali script, diacritics, and conjunct forms
• Experience with document annotation, transcription, translation, localization, or similar text-focused work
• Ability to maintain character-level accuracy, where a single wrong diacritic is a defect
• Ability to apply a consistent taxonomy across hundreds of pages
• Comfort working with multi-column newspapers, exam papers, and handwritten forms
• Helpful experience with annotation, labeling, grading, or bilingual evaluation for AI training datasets
• Helpful experience with MTPE, subtitling, bilingual quality assurance, OCR correction, or post-editing
• Helpful experience with Bengali typesetting, copy-editing, proofreading, digitization, Unicode normalization, or Bengali input methods
