OpenTrain is the hiring organization for this role. We connect audit and controls professionals with structured, expert review work that directly shapes how AI systems reason about audit planning, testing, and remediation.
About AI training work in audit and controls
AI training (also called data labeling or human feedback work) is the human side of building AI: people annotate, review, and rate model outputs so models learn correct reasoning and domain knowledge.
In this role you will apply professional audit judgement to create and vet training data—helping models learn to plan audits, evaluate evidence, test controls, and document conclusions with appropriate evidential support.
The role
As an Audit and Controls AI Training Specialist you'll turn audit and SOX controls experience into high-quality training data. The work focuses on producing realistic audit scenarios, reviewing AI-generated audit outputs for accuracy and evidential support, and writing clear feedback that improves model reasoning.
This is hands-on expert review work grounded in external audit, internal audit, risk & controls, and SOX workflows, performed asynchronously with a research team.
What you'll do
You will create structured, realistic audit examples and evaluate model responses so AI systems learn practical, evidence-based audit reasoning.
Build realistic audit scenarios from your professional experience: planning, scoping, risk assessment, fieldwork, sampling, testing workpapers, and report wrap-up.
Evaluate AI-generated audit outputs for reasoning quality, evidential support, and appropriate conclusions.
Write clear, constructive feedback that helps models improve audit planning, controls testing, issue tracking, and remediation validation.
Work asynchronously with a research team to produce structured training data for document-based tasks (label types: evaluation/rating and text generation).
Requirements
You must have practical audit or controls experience and strong written communication to explain professional judgment clearly.
Background in public accounting audit or internal audit and controls, especially SOX.
CPA or CIA preferred.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Ability to create realistic audit scenarios from professional work and judge evidential support and conclusions.
Strong attention to detail and excellent written feedback skills.
Ability to work remotely and asynchronously; English fluency required.
Candidates must be located in the US and able to commit 20+ hours per week.
Compensation, schedule, and engagement
This is a contract, part-time position with pay per hour. Hourly rate ranges from $80 to $120 USD per hour depending on experience and the task.
Typical workload is 20+ hours per week, performed remotely and on a flexible schedule. Work is document-focused and involves evaluation/rating and text-generation tasks.
How it works
Create a free OpenTrain account, build your profile to showcase audit/SOX experience, and apply. If selected, you'll receive structured assignments and guidance from a research team.
Work is asynchronous: you review documents and model outputs, submit ratings and written feedback, and receive instructions and quality guidelines for each task. Completing high-quality work builds your OpenTrain portfolio and unlocks more opportunities.
Who should apply
Experienced auditors from Big 4, regional firms, or internal audit teams who can turn professional judgment into clear written guidance are an excellent fit.
Entry-level auditors with relevant SOX or controls experience are welcome—bring demonstrable audit work and strong writing skills.
