About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for people building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help contributors discover projects, consolidate opportunities, and build a unified portfolio that grows with their skills.

OpenTrain AI is hiring directly for this role and will be your contracting organization for the assignment.

About AI Training Work

AI training (also called data labeling or human feedback) is the human side of building intelligent systems: people prepare and review examples that teach models how to reason, solve problems, and produce useful outputs. These roles are commonly remote, flexible, and accessible to contributors with careful reading, strong explanations, or domain knowledge.

This assignment focuses on math and logical reasoning tasks that help language models produce accurate, step-by-step solutions to analytical problems.

The Role

As an Advanced Math Research Analyst you will solve, validate, and explain math- and logic-based problems used to train and improve large language models. Your work ensures model outputs are correct, well-structured, and easy for users to follow.

You will produce written solutions, break complex material into logical blocks, and perform quick online research to confirm facts or methods when needed.

What You'll Do

  • Solve analytical and math-based scenarios used for model training and improvement.
  • Read, summarize, and break down long content into clear logical steps.
  • Conduct concise online research to validate claims and support answers.
  • Write step-by-step explanations that show how to reach the correct solution.
  • Work on varied problem types involving reasoning, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus.
  • Perform text-generation and evaluation tasks: produce solutions and rate model outputs for correctness and clarity.

Requirements

You must be comfortable working remotely and producing clear written math explanations in English. This role emphasizes careful, structured problem solving and reliable communication.

  • Strong English reading and writing comprehension.
  • High school or college-level ability in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus.
  • Ability to solve multi-step logic and math problems and explain each step clearly.
  • Systematic problem-solving, attention to detail, and dependable time management.
  • Access to a desktop or laptop with stable internet.

Helpful Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, engineering, physics, or related field (helpful but not required).
  • Tutoring or teaching experience in mathematics.
  • Familiarity with standardized test formats or college-level problem styles.
  • Experience with LaTeX, Google Colab, or similar tools for presenting formulas and worked solutions.

Work Setup & Schedule

This is a fully remote, contractor assignment with a 1-month contract duration. Minimum commitment is 20 hours per week, with options to work 20, 30, or 40 hours per week.

You should provide at least 4 hours of overlap with Pacific Time (PST / America/Los_Angeles); some overlap with UTC-8 is expected to enable synchronous review when needed.

  • Employment type: Contractor, Part-time options available.
  • Minimum 20 hours/week; options for 20, 30, or 40 hours/week.
  • Contract duration: 1 month.
  • Worldwide applicants accepted; must be able to work in English and meet the overlap requirement.

Compensation & Next Steps

This is a freelance contractor assignment. Specific pay details are managed through OpenTrain during onboarding.

To apply, prepare a brief summary of your math background and one or two short sample explanations (quick worked solutions) demonstrating your step-by-step style and clarity.

  • Labeling tasks include TEXT_GENERATION and EVALUATION_RATING on text-based problems.
  • No specialized domain certifications are required beyond demonstrated math ability.
