About AI Training Work
AI training is the human side of building modern artificial intelligence. Experts create examples, evaluate model outputs, and define what accurate reasoning looks like so advanced systems can perform reliably in real-world situations.
In this role, your accounting knowledge will help shape AI agents that work with financial documents, reconciliation logic, accounting workflows, and numerical outcomes.
Contribute directly to the development and evaluation of advanced AI
Apply practical finance expertise to structured, measurable training tasks
Work remotely with flexible part-time scheduling
The Role
OpenTrain AI is seeking an Accounting Reconciliation AI Task Author to design expert finance tasks that train and evaluate advanced AI agents. You will transform realistic enterprise accounting scenarios into precise, objectively scorable exercises involving reconciliations, financial documents, and accounting system outputs.
The work combines practical accounting expertise with careful task design, numerical validation, and model-quality evaluation. This is an entry-level opportunity classification, while hands-on accounting or finance analysis experience is required.
Payment type: Pay per hour
Pay: $60–$120 USD per hour
Typical rate listed: $120 USD per hour
Engagement: Contractor and part time
Schedule: 20+ hours per week
What You'll Do
You will create and validate tasks that test whether AI agents can reason through complex accounting situations. Each exercise should have clear inputs, defensible calculations, and correctness criteria that can be evaluated consistently.
Create prompts for payment-to-invoice matching, billing against recognized revenue, and margin report analysis.
Write rubrics defining exact numerical outcomes and the reasoning required to reach them.
Build realistic task environments using financial data, documents, and system states.
Solve each task to verify that figures, balances, and rubrics are correct.
Adjust data complexity, document ambiguity, and reasoning steps to calibrate difficulty.
Review and correct AI-drafted prompts or rubrics when provided.
Requirements
You should have hands-on experience as an accountant, finance analyst, or in a closely related finance role. Strong numerical reasoning and the ability to solve multi-step reconciliation problems precisely are essential.
You should understand revenue recognition, matching rules, and standard accounting workflows. You must also be able to define verifiable correctness criteria, including exact figures, reconciled balances, and variance explanations.

Understanding of payment, invoice, billing, revenue recognition, and matching workflows
Ability to define exact numerical correctness criteria and explain variances

An iterative approach to testing and refining tasks for difficulty and gradability
Helpful Background
