About AI Training Work
AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Experts create examples, review model outputs, and define what accurate, useful reasoning looks like so that AI systems can improve.
This work is part of a fast-growing technology field and is often flexible and remote. Your accounting knowledge can directly influence how AI agents handle financial analysis and enterprise workflows.
The Role
OpenTrain AI is recruiting an Accounting Reconciliation AI Task Author to create expert financial tasks for training and evaluating advanced AI agents. You will translate realistic enterprise accounting scenarios into precise, objectively scorable assignments focused on reconciliation, numerical reasoning, and verifiable outcomes.
The role combines practical accounting or finance experience with careful task design, testing, and quality review. It is a part-time contractor opportunity for contributors based in the United Kingdom, requiring 20 or more hours per week.

$60–$120 USD per hour
What You'll Do
You will design financial tasks that reproduce realistic accounting situations and make the expected outcomes clear enough to evaluate consistently. Each task should be tested end to end so that its calculations, reasoning requirements, and grading criteria function as intended.
Author scenarios involving payment-to-invoice matching, billing against recognized revenue, and margin-report analysis
Write rubrics defining exact numerical results and the reasoning required to reach them
Prepare financial data, documents, and system states that reproduce realistic accounting situations
Solve each task yourself to confirm that calculations and scoring criteria work
Adjust data complexity, source-document ambiguity, and reasoning steps to calibrate difficulty
Review and correct AI-drafted task prompts and scoring rubrics
Required Qualifications
This role requires hands-on experience as an accountant, finance analyst, or related finance professional. You should be comfortable working through detailed financial documents and multi-step reconciliation problems while maintaining precise, verifiable standards for correctness.
Accounting or finance experience with strong numerical reasoning
Ability to complete multi-step reconciliations
Knowledge of revenue recognition, matching rules, and standard accounting workflows
UK GAAP or IFRS experience where applicable
Ability to define figures, reconciled balances, and variance explanations that can be verified
Comfort with financial documents, spreadsheets, and accounting-system outputs
Careful attention to task accuracy, grading criteria, and difficulty calibration
Helpful Background
The following experience is valued but is not presented as a requirement. It can help you create more realistic enterprise accounting tasks and evaluate the quality of AI-generated work.
Manufacturing, industrial, or enterprise B2B finance experience
Familiarity with NetSuite, SAP, Sage, or Xero
ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualifications
Background in audit, financial controls, or revenue assurance
Who Should Apply
This opportunity may suit an accountant, finance analyst, auditor, or other finance professional who enjoys turning complex real-world processes into clear, testable problems. It is especially relevant if you can explain reconciliation logic, identify meaningful variances, and distinguish a correct result from an incomplete or unsupported one.
The listed experience level is entry level, while the role specifically calls for accounting or finance experience and strong reconciliation skills.
Finance professionals who want to apply their expertise to cutting-edge AI development
Accountants who are comfortable creating structured scenarios and objective rubrics
Contributors who enjoy reviewing, testing, and refining detailed written work
