The Role

OpenTrain is seeking a freelance Pro Bono Counsel and civil legal expert to evaluate AI-generated legal analyses involving civil legal services and access to justice. You will apply broad civil practice knowledge to assess legal reasoning, procedural guidance, and practical considerations affecting people navigating civil legal matters.

The work is remote and worldwide, requires 20+ hours per week, and pays $170 USD per hour. English is the required working language. The engagement is classified as part-time contract work.

What You'll Do

You will evaluate whether AI-generated legal analyses are accurate, logically sound, procedurally appropriate, and practically useful. Your written evaluations should clearly explain the basis for your conclusions and identify issues that could affect people seeking civil legal assistance.

  • Review AI-generated legal analyses for accuracy and sound reasoning
  • Evaluate scenarios involving housing, family, consumer, foreclosure, and debt issues
  • Assess whether procedural guidance is appropriate and sufficiently clear
  • Identify legal inaccuracies and access-to-justice considerations
  • Produce structured written evaluations explaining your conclusions

Required Qualifications

This role requires a Juris Doctor degree and active admission to a U.S. bar. Candidates should have a strong background in civil legal practice, excellent legal writing and analytical skills, and experience managing or participating in pro bono legal initiatives.

You should be able to evaluate legal reasoning across multiple civil practice areas and assess whether guidance is both legally appropriate and relevant to the practical barriers people may face when seeking civil legal services.
