About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help freelancers discover projects, build a lasting AI training portfolio, and grow into durable careers working on the human side of AI. OpenTrain is the hiring and contracting organization for this role.

About AI training work

AI training (data labeling, annotation, and human feedback) is how modern models learn from real examples prepared and reviewed by people. Contributors annotate code outputs, evaluate model responses, write and calibrate rubrics, and help shape how state-of-the-art systems behave.

This work is typically 100% remote, flexible, and accessible: many projects need practical engineering judgment, attention to detail, and clear written feedback rather than formal ML credentials.

The role

OpenTrain is recruiting a TypeScript Quality Assurance Lead to review AI-generated TypeScript code and QA work. You will judge correctness, type safety, runtime behavior, debugging accuracy, readability, maintainability, performance, testing, formatting, and rubric adherence, then provide precise written feedback and help keep contributors aligned on quality standards.

This is an hourly, remote contractor position for US-based contributors. It is a part-time role expected to run at 20+ hours/week with pay up to $70/hour.

What you'll do

You will lead quality workflows for TypeScript-focused AI training projects and support remote trainers and QAs with clear guidance and documentation.

  • Review AI-generated TypeScript code, type definitions, debugging responses, implementations, frontend and backend snippets, tests, and step-by-step reasoning.
  • Evaluate submissions against project guidelines and rubrics, then write clear, actionable feedback.
  • Monitor quality trends, escalate recurring or critical problems, and recommend improvements to project standards.
  • Communicate workflow or rubric updates to remote contributors and maintain calibration across teams.
  • Support onboarding: create and update documentation, FAQs, examples, trackers, and calibration tasks.
  • Identify inactive contributors, track follow-ups, and strengthen QA operations as projects evolve.

Requirements

You must have strong practical TypeScript experience and the ability to evaluate code for correctness, type-safety, and runtime behavior. Strong English communication is required to write precise technical feedback and coordinate workflows.

  • Strong TypeScript knowledge: types, interfaces, generics, unions, narrowing, and strict mode.
  • Practical experience with JavaScript runtime behavior, Node.js, and modern frontend or backend tooling.
  • Experience with code review, software QA, technical mentoring, or related engineering workflows.
  • Ability to judge async behavior, edge cases, security risks, maintainability, and test coverage.
  • Clear English communication for written feedback and team coordination.
  • Familiarity with AI training, rubric-based evaluation, or code QA workflows is a plus.
  • Experience coordinating remote teams, documentation, and quality processes is strongly preferred.

Pay, schedule, and location

Compensation: up to $70/hour (PAY_PER_HOUR; USD).

Time commitment: 20+ hours per week (part-time, contractor).

Location: Remote — United States only. OpenTrain is the hiring organization and this engagement is contractor-based.

Who should apply and how to proceed

This role fits experienced TypeScript professionals who enjoy reviewing technical work, spotting subtle issues, and raising quality across distributed teams. If you combine engineering judgment with patient, clear written feedback and have experience running or improving QA processes, apply.

When you apply, highlight TypeScript projects you reviewed or led, examples of code review feedback you wrote (anonymized if needed), and any experience with rubric-based evaluation or remote coordination.
