About AI Training and Evaluation

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Experts review examples, assess model outputs, and explain what makes information accurate, clear, reliable, and useful.

This role applies professional survey research judgment to AI-generated research content, helping evaluate whether proposed questionnaires and reasoning meet sound methodological standards.

The Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking a Survey Research and AI Evaluation Expert to assess survey questionnaires and AI-generated research content. You will determine whether surveys are clear, methodologically sound, fit for purpose, and likely to produce reliable, interpretable evidence.

The role requires about 40 hours per week and is available as a remote freelance contractor opportunity worldwide. The listed commitment is at least 20 hours per week, and compensation is $120 per hour.

  • Work arrangement: Remote and worldwide
  • Employment type: Contractor and part time
  • Language: English
  • Compensation: $120 per hour
  • Time commitment: About 40 hours per week, with at least 20 hours required

What You’ll Do

You will evaluate survey methodology and write structured explanations that identify weaknesses, assess likely research outcomes, and recommend practical improvements.

  • Review surveys for methodological quality, clarity, and fitness for purpose.
  • Identify leading language, ambiguity, double-barreled questions, response-option issues, ordering effects, and excessive respondent burden.
  • Evaluate screeners, eligibility criteria, survey flows, skip and display logic, scales, and questionnaire structure.
  • Assess sampling, measurement, response, and selection bias.
  • Review respondent recruitment, quotas, sample composition, and data-quality controls.
  • Determine whether survey designs can generate reliable and interpretable data from their intended populations.
  • Write structured rationales explaining methodological weaknesses and recommending improvements.

Required Experience and Skills

The source listing describes this opportunity as entry level, while the role requirements call for at least three years of professional experience in survey research or a related discipline. Candidates should have hands-on experience designing or fielding professional quantitative surveys and be able to evaluate methodology rather than simply follow a predefined questionnaire.

  • At least three years of professional experience in survey research, market research, consumer insights, behavioural science, UX research, polling, or a related field.
  • Professional experience designing or fielding quantitative surveys.
  • Strong understanding of questionnaire design, sampling, measurement, fieldwork, and common survey errors.
  • Ability to identify leading language, ambiguity, double-barreled questions, response-option problems, and ordering effects.
  • Knowledge of sampling, quotas, respondent recruitment, survey bias, and data-quality controls.
  • Ability to evaluate screeners, skip logic, scales, and questionnaire structure.
  • Clear written reasoning about methodological strengths, weaknesses, and recommended improvements.
  • Strong written communication, attention to detail, and sound judgment when information is incomplete or ambiguous.

Helpful Background

Experience with respondent panels, sampling strategies, screeners, quotas, or survey fieldwork is valuable. Familiarity with common research platforms is helpful but not required.

  • Qualtrics
  • SurveyMonkey
  • Alchemer
  • Decipher or Forsta
  • QuestionPro
  • Market research agencies
  • Consumer insights teams
  • Behavioural science organizations
  • Polling firms
  • UX research, social research, or in-house research functions
