The Role

OpenTrain is seeking an intermediate SQL Quality Assurance Lead to support AI training and database quality review. You will evaluate AI-generated SQL queries, database explanations, schema reasoning, analytics workflows, and data-modeling content. Your feedback will help ensure that work is accurate, executable, logically sound, secure, readable, and aligned with rubric expectations.

You will also help maintain consistent review practices, document recurring issues, support SQL contributor onboarding, and communicate workflow updates to trainers and quality reviewers.

What You'll Do

This role combines hands-on technical review with QA coordination and contributor support. You will assess SQL and related explanations against defined rubrics, identify patterns in quality issues, and help reviewers and contributors apply consistent standards.

• Review SQL queries, database explanations, schema reasoning, analytics workflows, and optimization recommendations.
• Evaluate correctness, efficiency, readability, formatting, security awareness, and instruction-following.
• Identify syntax, logic, performance, and security issues in SQL outputs.
• Spot recurring quality gaps and communicate workflow updates to trainers and QAs.
• Maintain documentation, FAQs, trackers, examples, honeypots, and onboarding materials.
• Support contributor activation, follow-ups, and onboarding calls for SQL work.

Required Qualifications

You should have substantial practical SQL experience and the ability to assess technical work against detailed quality standards. Strong written English is important because the role involves clear feedback, documentation, and coordination with remote reviewers and technical teams.

• At least 3 years of SQL experience in analytics, database engineering, reporting, QA, teaching, or technical review.
• Strong knowledge of joins, aggregations, subqueries, CTEs, window functions, indexes, transactions, and normalization.
• Ability to evaluate SQL for correctness, efficiency, rubric adherence, and security concerns.
• Familiarity with PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, SQLite, BigQuery, Snowflake, or Redshift.
• Strong English communication skills for written feedback and remote team coordination.

• Experience with AI training, data annotation, LLM evaluation, SQL QA, code review, or rubric-based technical review.
• Experience coordinating with remote reviewers, analysts, engineers, or QAs.
• Comfort using Discord, Google Sheets, Google Docs, trackers, dashboards, GitHub, and project management systems.
