About AI Training Work
AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Experts create examples, review model behavior, and evaluate whether an AI system can produce accurate, useful results. In this role, your software engineering judgment will help train and assess AI agents on realistic engineering problems.

The Role
OpenTrain AI is seeking a Software Engineering AI Task Author to create expert tasks that train and evaluate advanced AI agents on realistic enterprise engineering work. You will turn authentic failure scenarios into challenging, verifiable exercises involving integrations, logs, source code, configuration, and live or simulated fixes.
This is hands-on task-authoring work for engineers who can diagnose problems, implement solutions, and define what a correct outcome looks like. The position is remote contract work for engineers based in Bangalore, India, with flexible, task-based assignments.
Pay: $70–$120 per hour
Workload: 20+ hours per week
Engagement: Part-time contractor
Location: Bangalore, India
Language: English
What You'll Do
You will design engineering scenarios that give AI agents realistic opportunities to investigate failures, reason through evidence, and implement reliable fixes. Each task should have a clear, checkable outcome and a difficulty level appropriate for the target evaluation.
Author prompts covering integration failures, log-based debugging, source-code bug tracing, and configuration or integration fixes.
Build realistic task environments containing codebases, logs, alerts, and system states.
Write precise scoring rubrics for evaluating diagnoses and fixes, including live-environment validation where appropriate.
Solve each task yourself, implement the actual fix, and verify that it works before finalizing the task.
Calibrate difficulty by adjusting code complexity, log volume, failure modes, and ambiguity.
Review and correct AI-drafted task prompts and rubrics when needed.
Required Skills and Experience
You should have current or recent hands-on software engineering experience in an industry setting, along with strong written English communication. The work requires practical engineering judgment rather than purely theoretical knowledge.
Hands-on experience with backend systems, APIs, SaaS infrastructure, enterprise software, services, integrations, infrastructure, configuration code, or CI/CD.
Strong debugging ability, including reading logs, tracing failures through codebases, and using observability tools.
Fluency with Git, version-control workflows, and code review practices.
Ability to write and verify code fixes in live or simulated environments.
Ability to define precise, checkable correctness criteria for engineering outcomes.
Strong written English communication.
Helpful Background
Experience in enterprise SaaS, fintech, or industrial IoT can help you create representative engineering scenarios. Familiarity with Datadog, Grafana, PagerDuty, AWS, GCP, or Azure may also support the work.
