The Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking a Simplified Chinese Audio Transcriptionist to transcribe spoken Chinese recordings into accurate Simplified Chinese text. You will work independently on an asynchronous contract basis, maintaining precision across substantial volumes of audio.

This entry-level role is worldwide and requires a commitment of 20 or more hours per week. Compensation is $15-$35 USD per hour.

What You’ll Do

You will create verbatim transcripts that preserve the details of natural conversation, including difficult or imperfect audio conditions. Consistent use of project style guides and formatting rules will be essential.

  • Listen to Chinese audio recordings and produce verbatim Simplified Chinese transcriptions.
  • Identify and distinguish multiple speakers within a single recording.
  • Capture crosstalk, overlapping speech, filled pauses, false starts, and self-corrections.
  • Transcribe challenging recordings with background noise, low audio quality, and varying accents.
  • Apply detailed style guides and formatting conventions consistently.
  • Flag unclear or unintelligible segments according to established protocols.
  • Maintain accuracy and consistency across large volumes of audio content.

Requirements

The strongest candidates combine native-level Simplified Chinese ability with exceptional listening skills and a methodical approach to detailed work. You should be comfortable working independently while following precise instructions.

  • Native or near-native fluency in Simplified Chinese for listening and writing.
  • Exceptional listening skills and sensitivity to linguistic nuance.

Helpful Background
