The Role

OpenTrain AI is hiring a Simplified Chinese Audio Transcriptionist to create accurate verbatim transcripts of spoken Chinese recordings for AI training. This entry-level, part-time contractor role is fully remote and requires 20 or more hours per week.

You will work independently while following detailed transcription instructions and formatting conventions. The role is open to candidates in the United States and pays $10 to $35 per hour, with an hourly rate of up to $35.

What You’ll Do

You will transcribe spoken Chinese audio with close attention to linguistic detail and consistency. Recordings may include multiple speakers, background noise, varying accents, and other challenging conditions.

• Listen to Chinese audio and produce verbatim transcripts in Simplified Chinese
• Identify and distinguish multiple speakers in a single recording
• Capture crosstalk, overlapping speech, filled pauses, false starts, and self-corrections
• Apply detailed style guides and formatting conventions consistently
• Flag unclear or unintelligible segments according to established protocols
• Maintain high accuracy across large volumes of audio content

Required Qualifications

This role requires strong Simplified Chinese listening and writing ability, excellent concentration, and a methodical approach to detailed work. You should be comfortable working independently and applying instructions consistently across many audio files.

• Native or near-native fluency in Simplified Chinese
• Exceptional listening skills and sensitivity to linguistic nuance
• Ability to distinguish multiple speakers in complex audio
• Strong attention to detail
• Comfort following detailed formatting and style guidelines
• Self-motivated and reliable when working independently
• Access to a quiet workspace, reliable internet, and quality headphones

Helpful Experience

Prior transcription experience is helpful but not required. Background in related language, media, or speech-to-text work can help you handle challenging recordings and detailed annotation standards.

• Professional transcription, court reporting, or stenography
• Subtitle editing, closed-captioning, or media post-production
• Training in linguistics, phonetics, or language studies
• Experience with annotation platforms or speech-to-text workflows
• Familiarity with Chinese regional accents and dialects
• Translation, interpreting, or bilingual content work
