The Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking a Senior Java AI Code Reviewer to evaluate AI-generated Java code, architectural solutions, and technical explanations. You will assess correctness, clarity, prompt adherence, and technical reasoning while creating high-quality materials that support AI training.

The work focuses on Java backend engineering, including Spring Boot, microservices, distributed systems, performance optimization, and structured code review. This is a remote, part-time contractor role requiring 20+ hours per week, with compensation of $55 USD per hour.

What You’ll Do

You will review and create technical content used to evaluate and improve AI-generated software engineering responses. Your feedback should be precise, structured, and grounded in strong production experience.

• Review AI-generated Java code, architectural solutions, and explanations for accuracy and quality
• Identify logic, performance, and design issues in Java responses
• Write high-quality reference implementations and reasoning steps
• Rate and compare multiple AI answers based on correctness and reasoning quality
• Create prompts and responses that support AI training content
• Evaluate code for correctness, performance, design, and maintainability
• Compare alternative Java solutions using detailed, consistent judgment

Requirements

This role is designed for an expert Java engineer with strong professional and production experience, particularly in backend systems. You should be comfortable reviewing both implementation details and broader architectural decisions.

• Strong professional Java engineering background with production experience
• Deep knowledge of core Java, concurrency, and the Java Collections Framework
• Experience with Spring or Spring Boot, REST APIs, and microservice architectures
• Strong code review habits and systematic debugging or performance analysis skills
• Ability to review code for correctness, performance, design, and maintainability
• Clear written English and experience giving structured technical feedback
• Experience writing clear technical explanations in English
• Detail-oriented judgment when comparing alternative Java solutions
• Familiarity with AI-generated technical content evaluation
• Prior AI data training, annotation, or AI-generated content evaluation is a plus
