About AI training work in robotics
AI training (also called data labeling or human feedback work) is the human side of building AI. For physical models, that means people generate demonstration examples by controlling robots and recording the precise motions and outcomes the model should learn to reproduce.
This work is remote-friendly in many projects, but robotics data collection requires on-site teleoperation and close collaboration with lab teams. It’s a chance to contribute directly to how robots learn manipulation, assembly, and real-world tasks.
The role
As a Robot Teleoperator you'll produce high-quality demonstration data for physical AI foundation models by teleoperating robotic arms and humanoid robots using leader-arm systems, VR headsets, motion controllers, and other human–machine interfaces.
You will operate in a laboratory environment, follow safety protocols in active robotics lanes, monitor sessions for quality, report failures, and help improve data collection pipelines while meeting productivity and quality targets.
What you'll do
Teleoperate robotic manipulators and humanoid robots in real time with precise 1:1 control.
Produce consistent demonstration data across structured manipulation tasks like pick-and-place, sorting, folding fabrics, opening/closing containers, and light assembly.
Monitor data collection sessions, track session quality, and flag hardware or software issues.
Support operational continuity by communicating problems, following troubleshooting steps, and suggesting improvements to pipelines.
Work safely in active robotics lanes and follow laboratory safety and facility protocols.
Meet productivity targets during scheduled 8-hour shifts in a 24/7 robotics facility.
Requirements & qualifications
Candidates must demonstrate strong manual dexterity, excellent hand–eye coordination, and the ability to perform repetitive, precision-focused work reliably. Clear, timely communication about hardware or software issues is essential.
Comfortable using VR systems, motion controllers, or similar teleoperation interfaces.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and quality.
Basic troubleshooting ability and clear communication of technical issues.
Helpful background in robotics, automation, manufacturing, laboratory work, teleoperation, or precision gaming controls.
Experience with FPS, simulation, racing, or VR gameplay that requires precise controller input is a plus.
Ability to stand, walk, and move through a robotics facility during shifts.
Schedule, location, and employment type
This is an on-site role in the United States operating in a facility that runs 24/7. Shifts are scheduled to maintain continuous production and overlap between crews.
Operators are expected to maintain quality and productivity throughout each shift.
Employment types: Contractor and Part-time. Time requirement: 20+ hours/week (full-time schedules are also supported).
Compensation and next steps
Pay range: $30 to $55 per hour. Compensation is hourly and paid by OpenTrain AI for the work you perform during scheduled shifts.
