About AI Training and Coding Evaluation

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Technical contributors help AI systems improve by creating examples, evaluating outputs, documenting reasoning, and testing how models handle complex real-world problems.

In this role, your technical workflows and explanations will help support the development of AI systems that reason through software, quantitative, and other STEM challenges more effectively.

The Role

OpenTrain is seeking a Quantitative Research AI Coding Expert to support STEM-focused AI training through realistic technical workflows. You will use AI coding agents to investigate difficult problems, work through large codebases, develop or revise software, and clearly explain the technical decisions behind your work.

The role emphasizes sequential, agent-driven workflows rather than simple chat-based coding assistance. You will create detailed documentation that captures scenarios, process steps, decisions, and outcomes.

What You'll Do

You will demonstrate advanced workflows with Codex, Claude Science, Claude Code, Claude Cowork, or comparable AI coding agents in realistic technical settings. Your work will combine hands-on problem solving, technical evaluation, and clear written and verbal communication.

You will also participate in virtual discussions and feedback sessions, sharing technical approaches and structured input that supports the refinement of AI reasoning and problem-solving capabilities.

• Analyze large codebases and investigate complex technical problems
• Debug difficult issues and develop novel software features
• Make or explain substantial code architecture changes
• Work through ambiguous or open-ended technical challenges
• Direct, review, test, and validate multi-step AI-generated technical work
• Document scenarios, process steps, decisions, and outcomes
• Explain technical reasoning clearly in written deliverables and virtual discussions
• Provide structured feedback to support AI training and evaluation

Required Qualifications

You should bring current professional experience in a STEM-related field involving quantitative, scientific, engineering, or software problem-solving. Strong practical judgment and the ability to communicate technical reasoning in detail are essential.

Prior AI training experience is not required when you bring strong domain expertise and hands-on experience with practical technical workflows.

• Current professional STEM experience
• Hands-on experience with Codex, Claude Science, Claude Code, Claude Cowork, or comparable AI coding agents
• Experience analyzing large codebases, debugging complex issues, or implementing substantial feature and architecture changes
• Ability to solve complex, ambiguous, or open-ended technical problems with AI agent tools
• Ability to direct, review, test, and validate multi-step AI-generated technical work
• Exceptional written and verbal communication
• Ability to turn complex technical processes into useful educational or evaluative content for AI training

Relevant Backgrounds

Experience using AI coding agents in software engineering, quantitative research, scientific experimentation, mathematics, statistics, physics, chemistry, biology, or another STEM workflow is especially relevant. The work may suit professionals who can combine technical depth with careful evaluation of AI-generated results.
