The Role
As a Product Evaluation and Query Optimization Specialist, you will evaluate and annotate search queries and product comparisons in English. You will determine which products best match a query, identify when a query needs correction, and categorize product relevance using detailed project criteria.
This is an expert-level contractor role for applicants with previous search engine evaluation experience. The project begins with a one-hour test phase. Based on your performance, you may be considered for the full project, which is expected to last one to two months.
- Pay: $4 USD per hour
- Test phase: 1 hour of work
- Expected full-project duration: 1 to 2 months, based on performance
- Contractor and part-time engagement
What You'll Do
You will analyze search intent and assess how well products satisfy e-commerce queries. Your decisions should be accurate, consistent, and supported by clear reasoning based on the provided annotation guidelines.

- Categorize product relevance according to set criteria
- Compare products based on provided instructions
- Provide decision rationales in clear written English
- Use search engines to support query interpretation and validation
Requirements
Candidates must have prior experience in search engine evaluation projects, including work involving search relevance, query corrections, or product categorization. Strong written and spoken English is required because the role involves interpreting queries and explaining decisions.
You should be comfortable applying complex labeling instructions, making objective judgments, and maintaining accuracy across nuanced differences in product categories and attributes. Familiarity with e-commerce platforms, online marketplaces, annotation tools, or data-labeling systems is advantageous.
- Previous search engine evaluation experience is required
- Strong written and spoken English comprehension
- Analytical and critical-thinking ability
- Excellent attention to detail

Writing Test
During the live chat interview, be prepared to answer this evaluation question: Imagine you are tasked with evaluating a search query for an e-commerce platform. The query is "red sports shoes." Briefly explain how you would assess the relevance of a product that is a pair of red running sneakers from a well-known sports brand. What factors would you consider, and how would you justify your decision?
Your response should show how you interpret search intent, compare query terms with product attributes, and explain a consistent relevance decision.
- Address the match between color, product type, and intended use
- Explain which product attributes support or weaken relevance
- Justify your classification clearly and objectively
