The Role
OpenTrain AI is seeking a Power Electronics PCB Design Expert to design, structure, and evaluate advanced PCB design tasks across a range of power circuit applications. The role combines hands-on circuit and layout expertise with the development of structured evaluation frameworks for intelligent design systems.
This is a worldwide, remote contractor opportunity offered on a part-time basis. The project is listed at an entry-level experience classification, while the role requirements call for 5+ years of experience in power electronics or PCB design.

What You'll Do
You will create and assess power electronics designs, validate their technical correctness, and help define measurable standards for evaluating AI-generated or AI-assisted PCB work.
Design DC-DC converters, including buck and boost circuits, LDOs, AC-DC and DC-DC power supplies, and automotive systems
Develop schematics and PCB layouts using KiCad, Altium, or an equivalent design tool
Select components using datasheets and stated design requirements
Analyze efficiency, ripple, thermal performance, and reliability
Apply grounding, routing, EMI, and design-for-manufacturability best practices
Generate BOMs, Gerber files, and pick-and-place manufacturing data
Validate designs through simulations, calculations, and design rule checks
Define verification frameworks for specification validation, component compliance, and overall design correctness
Establish evaluation standards covering DRC/LVS, DFM, thermal performance, and power integrity
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine design and evaluation processes
Required Qualifications
Applicants should have a strong foundation in power electronics and practical experience developing schematics and PCB layouts. The role requires the ability to interpret component documentation and assess whether designs meet technical and manufacturing expectations.
Strong knowledge of power electronics, including DC-DC converters and LDOs
Experience with schematic design and PCB layout development
Knowledge of switching regulators, inductors, capacitors, and other power components
Familiarity with KiCad, Altium, or similar PCB design tools
Ability to interpret component datasheets
Understanding of DRC, manufacturability, and basic EMI principles
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
5+ years of experience in power electronics or PCB design
