About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building modern AI systems. Contributors review model responses, evaluate reasoning, check factual and contextual accuracy, and provide structured feedback that helps models produce more useful and reliable results.

As a political science quality assurance lead, you will apply subject-matter knowledge to political explanations, policy discussions, institutional descriptions, comparative analysis, and related AI-generated content.

The Role

OpenTrain is seeking a Political Science Quality Assurance Lead to oversee quality, consistency, and trainer performance across political science AI training projects. You will review AI-generated content and trainer QA work against detailed project rubrics, identify bias and reasoning issues, provide precise written feedback, and support quality alignment across remote expert teams.

This is a remote contractor role for candidates in the United States. It is a part-time project with flexible scheduling, requires 20 or more hours per week, and may provide relevant opportunities as they arise.

  • Pay: Up to $70 per hour, depending on country variant and project assignment
  • Location: United States
  • Schedule: Part time with flexible scheduling
  • Engagement: Contractor
  • Primary language: English

What You'll Do

You will help maintain high standards for political science AI training work while supporting the people who produce and review it. The role combines expert evaluation, written coaching, documentation, and workflow improvement.

  • Review political science content for conceptual accuracy, institutional knowledge, comparative context, political theory accuracy, policy reasoning, source awareness, clarity, formatting, and instruction-following.
  • Identify recurring quality issues and escalate critical problems when needed.
  • Give trainers and QAs clear feedback, including updates on workflow changes and review standards.
  • Answer questions about institutions, comparative politics, public policy, political theory, international relations, bias, and rubric interpretation.
  • Maintain style guides, FAQs, trackers, onboarding materials, calibration tasks, examples, and other documentation.
  • Support onboarding and training for contributors working on political science projects.
  • Help identify inactive contributors and track follow-ups to improve workflow continuity.
  • Flag misleading, ideologically one-sided, unsupported, outdated, or poorly contextualized claims.
  • Propose workflow improvements that help scale political science quality assurance.

Required Qualifications

You should have strong political science knowledge and the ability to judge political analysis for accuracy, bias, reasoning quality, and adherence to detailed rubrics. Strong English communication skills are required for written feedback and team communication.

  • Background in Political Science, International Relations, Public Policy, Government, Political Theory, Security Studies, Law, Sociology, Economics, or a closely related field
  • Familiarity with political institutions, comparative politics, international relations, governance, state capacity, civil society, and political behavior
  • Ability to explain quality issues clearly and evaluate work against detailed rubrics
  • Comfort working remotely with Discord, Google Sheets, Google Docs, trackers, dashboards, and project management systems

Helpful Experience

Prior experience in political science research, teaching, policy analysis, academic review, fact-checking, or rubric-based review is a strong plus. Experience with AI training, data annotation, large language model evaluation, or policy QA is also highly relevant.

Experience leading or supporting remote teams can help you succeed in this role, especially when coordinating analysts, researchers, reviewers, educators, annotators, or QAs.

  • Democracy and authoritarianism
  • Political economy and public administration
  • Constitutional systems and electoral politics
  • Conflict studies and international organizations
  • Policy evaluation and survey research
