About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help freelancers centralize work history, build a credible AI-training portfolio, and connect directly with project opportunities so you can grow a durable freelance career in the human side of AI.

About AI Training Work

AI training (data labeling / annotation / human feedback) is how modern models learn from people. It includes creating and reviewing examples, rating outputs, and producing clear feedback so models understand technical subject matter. These roles are almost always remote, flexible, and an accessible way to use domain expertise to shape state-of-the-art systems.

The Role

OpenTrain is hiring a Physics PhD AI Training Expert to contribute physics expertise to text-based AI training projects. You will use advanced physics concepts and technical problem sets to create and evaluate training data, provide clear written feedback on model responses, and help ensure technical accuracy in project deliverables.

  • Part-time contractor, remote, worldwide
  • Core task types: question answering, text generation, evaluation/rating
  • Work timeframe: roughly 1–3 months, ~20 hours/week (flexible scheduling)

What You'll Do

  • Analyze and evaluate real-world physics data, scenarios, and technical prompts
  • Generate, review, and refine advanced physics problem sets and training content
  • Provide expert feedback on complex questions and model outputs to improve technical accuracy
  • Translate intricate physics theories and phenomena into accessible explanations for training data
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to align deliverables with project objectives
  • Participate in quality assurance: identify gaps and recommend improvements to datasets and guidelines

Requirements

You must have deep subject-matter expertise in physics and strong written communication skills. OpenTrain values domain experience most highly; prior AI-training experience is helpful but not required unless noted elsewhere on the project.

  • Doctorate (PhD) or equivalent advanced training in Physics
  • Experience developing or reviewing educational or technical physics materials
  • Strong written and verbal communication for explaining complex scientific ideas
  • Solid background in theoretical and applied physics with analytical problem-solving skills
  • Comfort working independently on remote contractor tasks
  • Interest or familiarity with AI, data science, or digital training environments

Schedule, Pay, and Project Details

This is a part-time contractor role estimated at about 20 hours per week for 1–3 months with flexible scheduling. Tasks are text-focused (question answering, text generation, evaluation/rating). OpenTrain hires contractors directly and supports remote contributors worldwide.

  • Pay: USD $80–$90 per hour (hourly rate shown: $90/hr; range $80–$90/hr)
  • Estimated commitment: ~20 hours/week, 1–3 months
  • Employment type: Contractor, Part-time; remote and open to worldwide applicants
  • Primary language: English
