About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Experts provide carefully prepared examples, analyses, and feedback that help modern AI systems learn to produce more accurate, useful, and technically sound outputs.

In this project, your physics knowledge will help shape how AI models learn to reason through advanced scientific problems. Prior AI-training experience is not required; subject-matter expertise is the central qualification.

The Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking a Physics Problem-Solving AI Training Expert to develop high-quality scientific input for next-generation AI systems. You will solve advanced physics problems, produce rigorous derivations and analyses, and document your reasoning using LaTeX and computational tools.

This is an entry-level opportunity within AI training for researchers with advanced physics expertise. The project requires approximately 10 hours per week over an 8–10 week period and pays between $80 and $140 USD per hour.

  • Work arrangement: Remote, worldwide
  • Engagement: Part-time contractor
  • Time commitment: Approximately 10 hours per week
  • Project duration: 8–10 weeks
  • Pay: $80–$140 USD per hour
  • Working language: English

What You'll Do

You will create precise, reproducible technical solutions that help AI systems learn advanced physics reasoning. Solutions should clearly communicate assumptions, approximations, mathematical steps, and final results.

  • Solve advanced physics problems within your area of specialization.
  • Produce rigorous, clearly written derivations and analyses using LaTeX mathematical notation.
  • Use SymPy, Python, and Jupyter for symbolic or numerical verification and transparent computational workflows.
  • Identify subtleties in problem statements, including special cases, boundary conditions, and dimensional consistency.
  • Flag ambiguities in project materials and propose well-reasoned interpretations or clarifications.
  • Revise submitted solutions in response to project reviewer feedback.
  • Maintain professional standards for documentation, accuracy, and reproducibility.

Required Qualifications

This role is designed for advanced physics researchers who can provide expert-level reasoning and polished scientific communication. You should be able to work independently while incorporating detailed reviewer feedback into final solutions.

  • PhD in physics or advanced-stage PhD candidacy with active research experience.
  • Research expertise in one or more relevant subfields, such as high-energy physics, mathematical physics, biophysics, statistical physics, condensed matter, AMO or quantum optics, gravitation, cosmology, astrophysics, quantum information, or optical properties of materials.
  • Two to five recent representative publications from approximately the past five years.
  • Proficiency with LaTeX for mathematical presentation.
  • Proficiency with SymPy, Python, and Jupyter for computational work.
  • A demonstrated ability to produce clear, precise technical or scientific outputs.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to isolate key physical principles in complex problems.
  • Availability for approximately 10 hours per week throughout the 8–10 week project.

Who Should Apply

Apply if you are a physics PhD, advanced-stage doctoral candidate, or active researcher with recent publication experience and a strong interest in contributing to AI development. The project is particularly suited to specialists in high-energy physics, condensed matter, quantum information, and related fields.

You do not need previous experience in AI training. Your ability to reason carefully, communicate technical ideas, and verify scientific work is what will make your contribution valuable.
