As a physics expert on OpenTrain, you will shape how generative models handle technical reasoning, correctness, and explanation quality — a unique chance to improve tools used across research and education.

The role

You will review AI-generated physics responses, evaluate reasoning quality and factual accuracy, identify calculation or conceptual errors, and produce high-quality explanations and model solutions. Your judgments will be used to rate, compare, and refine model outputs for research-oriented physics tasks.

This is specialized, expert work intended for physicists who can distinguish mathematically valid steps from physically correct reasoning and who can write clear, authoritative solutions.

What you'll do

  • Review AI-generated physics answers for accuracy, logic, and clarity across problem types.
  • Identify calculation mistakes, flawed methodologies, and conceptual misunderstandings in solutions.
  • Write model solutions and detailed explanations that are pedagogically clear and technically correct.
  • Compare and rank multiple AI responses by correctness, completeness, and reasoning quality.
  • Provide structured ratings and free-text feedback used to train models on physics reasoning and explanation.

Requirements

  • MS or PhD in Physics or a closely related field.
  • Expert-level knowledge across mechanics, electromagnetism, optics, thermodynamics, statistical mechanics, and modeling.
  • Proven experience developing or critically reviewing advanced physics content.
  • Excellent written English and experience producing clear technical explanations.
  • Ability to detect subtle calculation, methodology, and conceptual errors in written solutions.

Preferred qualifications

  • Prior experience with data labeling, RLHF, or AI model evaluation (helpful but not required).
  • Comfort working with structured rating tasks and writing concise, targeted feedback for model improvement.

This is a contractor, part-time role requiring 20+ hours per week. The paid rate is USD $70.00 per hour. Work is remote but restricted to contributors based in the listed countries.
