About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building modern AI systems. Expert contributors review model outputs, write and rate responses, evaluate reasoning, and apply detailed rubrics so AI systems can produce more accurate, clear, and context-aware results.

In this philosophy-focused role, your subject expertise will help assess whether AI-generated explanations and arguments are conceptually sound, logically valid, well supported, and faithful to philosophical traditions and ideas.

The Role

OpenTrain AI is hiring a Philosophy Quality Assurance Lead to oversee quality, consistency, and trainer performance across philosophy-focused AI training projects. You will review AI-generated philosophy content as well as trainer and QA work against project guidelines and rubrics.

The role focuses on conceptual accuracy, argument structure, logical validity, philosophical context, interpretation quality, clarity, nuance, formatting, instruction-following, and adherence to project-specific standards. The position is remote and contractor-based, with hourly pay of up to $65.

  • Experience level: Expert
  • Schedule: 20+ hours per week
  • Location: United States
  • Language: English
  • Work arrangement: Remote, part-time contractor
  • Pay: Up to $65 per hour

What You'll Do

You will support the review process across remote expert teams, helping contributors stay aligned as projects and quality standards evolve. You will also identify recurring problems, communicate updates, and help maintain an effective operating rhythm for philosophy review.

  • Review AI-generated philosophy explanations, argument analyses, ethical reasoning, philosopher summaries, logic problems, and conceptual comparisons.
  • Evaluate trainer and QA work for accuracy, rigor, and alignment with project rubrics.
  • Provide precise written feedback and escalate recurring or critical quality issues.
  • Communicate project updates, quality expectations, and review standards to remote contributors.
  • Support onboarding, training calls, documentation, calibration materials, and process improvements.
  • Help identify inactive contributors and keep quality workflows moving across remote expert teams.
  • Maintain documentation and contribute to clearer review workflows as projects develop.

Requirements

This role requires a strong philosophy background and the ability to evaluate reasoning with precision. Relevant expertise may come from philosophy, ethics, logic, political theory, humanities, religious studies, classics, cognitive science, or a closely related field.

Candidates should have at least three years of experience in philosophy research, teaching, writing, editing, academic review, ethics review, logic instruction, or related humanities workflows.

  • Strong background across logic, ethics, epistemology, metaphysics, or philosophy of mind.
  • Experience evaluating arguments for validity, soundness, and conceptual clarity.
  • Ability to identify strawman arguments, invalid inference, conceptual confusion, oversimplification, unsupported claims, false equivalence, and misrepresentation of philosophers' views.
  • Strong written English for clear feedback and team communication.
  • Experience giving rubric-based feedback on AI training, QA, or review work.
  • Comfort working with remote teams and digital collaboration tools.

Tools and Review Experience

You should be comfortable working in a remote review environment and using common tools to organize feedback, monitor workflows, and communicate with contributors.

  • Discord
  • Google Sheets
  • Google Docs
  • Trackers and dashboards
  • Project management systems
  • AI training, data annotation, LLM evaluation, academic QA, or ethics review experience is a strong plus.

Who Should Apply

This opportunity is a strong fit for an experienced philosophy professional who can combine subject-matter depth with clear written judgment. You should be comfortable distinguishing a persuasive argument from a merely fluent one and explaining quality issues in a way that helps trainers improve.

Apply if you enjoy careful analysis, structured review, remote collaboration, and helping shape how AI handles complex philosophical ideas.

  • Philosophy researchers, instructors, writers, editors, and academic reviewers.
  • Ethics or logic specialists with strong argument-analysis skills.
  • Humanities professionals experienced in rubric-based quality review.
  • Experts who can communicate nuanced feedback clearly in English.
  • Contributors available for at least 20 hours per week.
