About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Experts prepare, review, and evaluate examples so AI systems can learn to understand technical information and produce more useful results. In this project, your parametric CAD knowledge will help AI systems learn from real-world mechanical design expertise.

  • Apply professional knowledge to cutting-edge AI development
  • No prior AI training experience is required
  • Contribute to structured technical data and model evaluation

The Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking a Parametric CAD Modeling Specialist for AI training work focused on parametric mechanical CAD modeling. You will create and evaluate structured CAD models and supporting documentation, applying sound design intent, manufacturing knowledge, and technical judgment.

This is a worldwide, remote contractor opportunity for contributors who can work at least 20 hours per week. The role is listed as entry level for AI training, but it requires substantial hands-on expertise in parametric CAD and mechanical design.

  • Employment type: Part-time contractor
  • Time requirement: 20+ hours per week
  • Location: Worldwide and fully remote
  • Working language: English
  • Pay: $40–$100 USD per hour

What You’ll Do

You will develop, update, audit, and document mechanical CAD models based on detailed written briefs and changing requirements. Your work will support consistent CAD data and clear documentation of the decisions behind each design.

  • Develop fully parametric 3D models of mechanical parts and assemblies
  • Create robust sketches, constraints, and feature trees
  • Edit existing models as requirements change while preserving manufacturability
  • Audit dimensional accuracy, tolerance application, and alignment with design intent
  • Identify and document gaps, deviations, and technical issues
  • Apply design-for-manufacturability knowledge to injection molding, sheet metal, CNC machining, casting, and forging
  • Deliver consistent CAD data and clear documentation for AI model training
  • Communicate technical rationale, feedback, and design insights in writing and verbally

Required Qualifications

The strongest candidates will bring professional experience creating and editing complex parametric models, along with practical knowledge of GD&T and manufacturing requirements. You should be comfortable following detailed project guidelines and explaining the reasoning behind your design decisions.

  • Professional experience with FreeCAD, Autodesk Fusion 360, SolidWorks, Inventor, or comparable parametric CAD platforms
  • Strong experience with robust part and assembly modeling
  • Practical application of GD&T, including ASME Y14.5 or an equivalent standard
  • Experience maintaining dimensional accuracy and design intent
  • Design-for-manufacturability expertise across multiple manufacturing processes
  • Experience with complex model creation and model editing
  • Strong written communication and careful attention to detail
  • Ability to follow detailed technical and project guidelines

Valued Additional Experience

The following experience is advantageous but is not presented as a required qualification. It may help you contribute to more complex modeling, review, or automation workflows.

  • Reverse engineering workflows
  • CAD automation or scripting
  • Python, iLogic, NX Open, or VBA
  • Additional experience with assembly-level modeling and technical documentation
