AI training (a.k.a. data labeling or annotation) is the human side of building intelligent systems. People create and verify examples—like recorded conversations—that models learn from.

This assignment collects high-quality German audio role-plays. Your recordings will be used to improve speech models, virtual assistants, and other language-aware systems.

The role

We are recruiting native German speakers based in Germany to participate in paired role-play recordings. The project will enroll 200 people (100 pairs/groups) with balanced age and gender targets.

You will act in conversations portraying a friendly and professional agent across real-life topics, recording your own voice (single-side) while conversing with your partner.

• Project size: 200 participants (100 pairs/groups).
• Age balance target: 18–30: 80+ (≈40%); 31–45: 60+ (≈30%); 46+: 20+ (≥10%).
• Gender balance target: roughly 1:1 men/women with ±5% flexibility.

What you'll do

Pair with another native German speaker and record natural dialogues on six topics: Banking, Telecom, Insurance, Hospital, Travel, and Retail.

Each topic requires a 20-minute recording; total per pair is expected to exceed 2.3 hours across all topics. Follow the role-play brief and aim for a natural, professional agent performance.

Recording rules & technical setup

Recordings must be clean and professional: no background noise, clear speech, no stuttering, and no long pauses. Each person must be recorded separately (single-side recording).

Use Zoom for the conversation and your phone to record only your own voice at 44.1 kHz, 16-bit. A headset is required so the phone captures only the wearer’s voice and not the other participant.

Quality checks

Submitted recordings will be reviewed for naturalness, adherence to topic and duration, and professional performance of the agent role. Recordings that don’t meet the guidelines may be rejected.

Follow instructions carefully and run quick local checks before submission (listen for background noise, dropped audio, or overlap).

• Accepted recordings must be natural, smooth, and on-topic.

• Agent role must be performed professionally and consistently.

Qualifications & preferences

Required: native German speaker, based in Germany, stable internet, phone, and a headset. Able to act as a friendly and professional agent in role-plays.

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree or higher (preference for computer science) and 3–5 years prior experience in related fields. This role is listed at an expert experience level.

• Languages: German required; English proficiency helpful.
• Location: Germany only.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred (CS favored).
• Experience: 3–5 years preferred; expert-level applicants encouraged.

Schedule, pay, and commitment

This is contractor, part-time work with a time expectation of 20+ hours/week during the study period. Exact session scheduling will be coordinated with your paired partner and project team.

Payment: fixed payment of $85 for this assignment. Additional scheduling or milestone details will be provided when you join.

How it works / How to apply

If you meet the requirements and are comfortable with the recording rules, apply through OpenTrain. Selected participants will be scheduled in pairs, given detailed scripts/briefs, and provided instructions for recording and submission.
