About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help people start and grow careers teaching AI by connecting qualified contributors with high-impact projects and providing the tools to apply and contribute quickly.

OpenTrain AI is the hiring and contracting organization for this role. Creating an OpenTrain account is free and gives you access to training projects, career-building opportunities, and flexible contract work across the AI-training industry.

About AI training work

AI training (data labeling/annotation/human feedback) is the human side of building modern AI: contributors create, review, and rate examples that shape model behavior. This work is remote, flexible, and accessible to people with practical skills rather than formal degrees.

Projects vary from prompt writing and RLHF to building and evaluating technical workflows. Contributors often work part-time on contract, control their hours, and directly influence how state-of-the-art systems perform.

  • 100% remote — work from anywhere with a computer or phone and internet.
  • Flexible, project-based work that fits around other commitments.
  • No single career path required — practical experience and attention to detail matter most.

The role

You will create and evaluate examples that teach AI systems how to design, troubleshoot, and optimize n8n automations—with a focus on self-hosted deployments and resilient multi-step workflows.

This is a contract, part-time role requiring roughly 20+ hours per week. Work is remote and open globally except for the listed restricted locations. Compensation is paid hourly at $15–$45 USD per hour.

  • Project type: Prompt + response writing, evaluation/rating, SFT/RLHF, and coding-focused review.
  • Employment: Contractor, part-time; expected time commitment: 20+ hours/week.
  • Pay: Hourly, USD $15–$45 per hour (paid per hour).

What you'll do

Your daily work will blend technical workflow design with rubric-based evaluation. Tasks range from writing prompt tasks that require robust n8n designs to reviewing AI-generated workflows and improving them for reliability and performance.

  • Author prompts that require multi-step n8n workflows: nodes, execution patterns, retries, error branches, and data parsing.
  • Evaluate and rate AI-generated automation flows using clear rubrics focused on correctness, resilience, and operational constraints.
  • Improve AI outputs for scalability: handle rate limits, batching, timeouts, sequencing, and idempotency strategies.
  • Design or describe resilient self-hosted n8n architectures (Docker, env vars, credentials, logging, alerting).
  • Assess web-scraping steps for extraction accuracy, parsing, and structured/unstructured data handling.
  • Document examples and edge cases that help models learn safe and maintainable automation patterns.

Requirements

You must demonstrate hands-on experience with n8n and with producing or evaluating technical examples; strong written English (B2+ / conversational or higher) is required for clear prompt writing and rubric work.

  • Proven hands-on experience building complex n8n workflows, including self-hosted setup and maintenance (Docker, env vars, credentials).
  • Comfort designing multi-app automations: APIs, webhooks, OAuth/API keys, data mapping, and troubleshooting failed runs.
  • Deep understanding of n8n workflow logic, nodes, execution modes, retries, error handling, and logging.
  • Experience designing resilient systems: retries, deduping/idempotency, error branches, and alerting.
  • Knowledge of rate limits, batching, API constraints, and workflow optimization to avoid timeouts/failures.
  • Web scraping experience (extraction reliability, parsing HTML, structured/unstructured data handling).
  • Hands-on text annotation, evaluation, or rubric-based QA experience; experience evaluating LLM outputs for legal reasoning quality is a plus.
  • English proficiency B2 or higher; strong written communication required.
  • Availability for ~20+ hours/week and comfortable working independently on contract-based projects.
  • Submit a CV in English that states your English level and includes email address and phone number.

Preferred / nice-to-have

You do not need every item below to apply, but they make you a stronger candidate and help when producing technical training data or evaluations.

  • Portfolio or textual descriptions of scalable end-to-end automations built with n8n or similar platforms.
  • Experience integrating LLMs into automation pipelines (LLM calls, enrichment steps, content workflows).
  • Familiarity with scraping tools (Apify or similar) and strong data transformation skills (JSON, CSV, HTML parsing).
  • Experience describing operational constraints (rate limits, retries, batching) in clear, teachable examples.
