About AI Response Evaluation

AI response evaluation is the human side of developing generative AI. Experts write challenging prompts, assess model answers, identify errors and unsupported claims, and provide structured feedback that helps improve future systems.

This work is part of a growing field that can offer remote and flexible opportunities. In this assignment, your knowledge of music will help test whether AI-generated responses are accurate, complete, well-reasoned, nuanced, and current.

The Role

OpenTrain is seeking a Music Domain Expert for AI Response Evaluation to support AI training focused on music theory, composition, genres, composers, artists, instruments, production, notation, music history, and contemporary music trends.

You will apply structured subject-matter expertise, careful research, and clear written feedback to the evaluation of AI-generated music responses. The role is listed as entry level, while the assignment requires a master's degree or higher and prefers relevant professional experience.

  • Remote contractor assignment
  • Eight-week contract
  • 40 hours per week, with at least four hours of Pacific Time overlap
  • Structured time requirement listed as 20+ hours per week
  • English-language work
  • Compensation details are not disclosed

What You'll Do

You will create difficult, informative evaluation material and assess AI outputs across a broad range of music topics. Your reviews should be objective, carefully reasoned, and supported by reliable references.

The work also includes collaborating with AI researchers and maintaining consistent annotation quality and documentation.

  • Create advanced prompts covering music theory, genres, composers, artists, production, and instruments
  • Evaluate AI-generated responses for factual accuracy, reasoning quality, completeness, and nuance
  • Identify hallucinations, logical inconsistencies, outdated information, and edge cases
  • Develop benchmark datasets and adversarial test cases for music topics
  • Provide clear, evidence-based feedback using reliable references
  • Collaborate with AI researchers
  • Maintain consistent annotation quality and documentation

Requirements

A master's degree or higher is required. Preferred academic backgrounds include music, music theory, musicology, ethnomusicology, music education, music production, audio engineering, performing arts, or related disciplines.

Three or more years of relevant experience is preferred in music education, performance, composition, production, journalism, research, content creation, audio engineering, or a related field. Experience with LLMs, generative AI, prompt engineering, or AI evaluation is beneficial.

  • Strong knowledge of music theory, composition, genres, composers, artists, instruments, history, production techniques, notation, and contemporary trends
  • Excellent written English
  • Strong research and analytical ability
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to provide objective, evidence-backed reviews
  • Ability to design challenging prompts, benchmark examples, and adversarial test cases
  • Ability to identify hallucinations and inconsistencies in AI-generated responses

Who Should Apply

This opportunity is suited to a music specialist who can move confidently between foundational theory, historical and contemporary context, creative practice, production, and technical analysis. You should be comfortable judging both the substance of an answer and the quality of its reasoning.

Applicants with experience in music education, performance, composition, production, journalism, research, content creation, or audio engineering may bring relevant perspectives. Familiarity with AI systems can strengthen your application, but the central requirement is deep, well-supported music knowledge and the ability to communicate evaluations clearly.
